Culture Ode to Kenny Rogers, no Olympics? More with smile and dry dog food for cats.

Daily Miscellany

Thoughts and flashes of brilliance that enter my head from nowhere.

Enjoy.  Or abhor, depending on the effect of my "wisdom".

I have run out of dry cat food and might have to use dry dog food.

The tortures we must bear.  And my cats will not understand for one second why I am giving them dog food.  They will think I show them no respect.

I order pet food for delivery but you know how it is.  Everything takes three months to get delivered.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe finally admits postponing the Tokyo Olympics may be 'inevitable' as Canada and Australia pull out of the games due to coronavirus fears

A year with no Olympics. It's hard to imagine such a thing.

japan's prime minister Shinzo Abe has conceded that a delay to the Tokyo Olympic Games could be 'inevitable' as the world continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, Abe told parliament that Japan was still committed to hosting a 'complete' Games, but added: 'If that becomes difficult, in light of considering athletes first, it may become inevitable that we make a decision to postpone.' The decision came as Team Canada and Team Australia announced they will not be sending athletes if the games are staged this year.

Playboy cites coronavirus in decision to end print edition

Heh.  So Coronavirus made Playboy stop its print edition.

Playboy has been over-powered by the Internet.  Nobody buys it anymore.

And if they did it was just to read the articles.

Playboy magazine announced that it will be ending its print edition, due in part to the coronavirus pandemic.

Playboy's CEO, Ben Kohn, said the decision to stop printing the magazine had been discussed for some time, but was expedited by the global outbreak.

“As the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic to content production and the supply chain became clearer and clearer, we were forced to accelerate a conversation we’ve been having internally: the question of how to transform our US print product to better suit what consumers want today … [and] engage in a cultural conversation each and every day, rather than just every three months,” Kohn wrote in an open letter on Medium.

“We will move to a digital-first publishing schedule for all of our content including the Playboy Interview, 20Q, the Playboy Advisor and of course our Playmate pictorials,” Kohn explained.
“It’s no surprise that media consumption habits have been changing for some time … [and] our content in its printed form reaches the hands of only a fraction of our fans,” he added.
Playboy had already reduced its publishing schedule to four issues a year.

Kenny Rogers performs at the Country Music Awards in Nashville, 1977Kenny Rogers 1977, Nashville, USA

Country Music Icon Kenny Rogers Dies at 81

He died peacefully we are to understand.

My favorite songs of his: "The Gambler" and "Islands in the Stream" with Dolly Parton.

May he rest in peace.

Vocalist Kenny Rogers, who dominated the pop and country charts in the 1970s and 1980s with a string of sleekly tailored hits and won three Grammys, has died. He was 81. Rogers “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family,” a representative for the singer said in a statement. Due to the national COVID-19 emergency, the family is planning a small private service at this time with a public memorial planned for a later date.
