The curse of Internet abbreviations:
Follows is a phrase I would read perhaps on Facebook or some web site comment or another:
"The SOL was given to America by France".
I doubt many would know what SOL stands for from that sentence. In fact it stands for "Statue of Liberty" and might be found in some commentary about Lady Liberty.
I hate that.
If someone wants me to sit and read their commentary or Blog post or whatever, they should make sure I know what those godawful abbreviations mean.
Now there are some caveats to this. LOL....anybody ever on the Internet knows what that means. LMAO....also used.
But yes of course we can use abbreviations but bear in mind, abbreviations mean nothing if the reader does not know what it stands for.
I do, as expected, have a solution.
If you are going to repeat a phrase often during a comment or post, begin by making it bold or in all caps as indicator the phrase is important and reader will see it within the verbiage and will see it often.
Thus:
"The STATUE OF LIBERTY (SOL) has been the symbol of America for many years. In fact, the SOL was given to America by France."
As I read the above I can see that the writer intends to use SOL as abbreviation for Statue of Liberty and I understand. The writer should not just assume the reader will, for sure, know that SOL stands for Statue of Liberty.
You see this all the time on the Internet but here's my new rule of thumb. The minute I see some dumbass abbreviation which I have no idea what it means, then I stop reading.
If the writer can't make the words mean something to all readers, well fooey on them.

Been reading a lot of this sort of thing lately.
What the hell kind of joy can spitting and coughing on food give to someone?
Cheer up. These people are going to jail.

Cell phone video shot from inside a Stop & Shop in Kingston on Saturday showed at least three men on top of the man as in the produce aisle. “Don’t try and get up,” one of the shoppers tells the man pinned to the floor.
Witnesses told police they spotted the 65-year-old man from Duxbury, whose name was not released by authorities, coughing and spitting on produce. Kyle Mann, an 18-year-old shopper from Pembroke who recorded the video and posted it on Facebook, said punches were also exchanged between the man and a store employee.

Woman, 19, and her girlfriend, 23, are arrested on suspicion of killing hotel worker and chopping off his fingers...
What a lovely pair of ladies we have here.
They cut off his fingers to use them to access his bank account from his mobile phone. Iphones use fingerprint ID's, for example.
The guy negotiated a lap dance so these ladies aren't church people.
Horrible, horrible.

A couple have been arrested on suspicion of killing a hotel worker and chopping off his fingers to access his bank account from his mobile and steal a £60,000 inheritance.
The women were held after parts of Diogo Goncalves' dismembered body was discovered in different parts of the Algarve.
Portuguese police have confirmed they have arrested two women aged 19 and 23 on suspicion of murdering a 21-year-old man and desecrating his body.
Local reports say security worker Maria Malveira, 19, allegedly promised Diogo a lap dance so she could tie him to a chair before strangling him and dismembering and dumping his body over nearly a week with the help of nurse lover Mariana Fonseca.

Man Fatally Poisons Himself While Self-Medicating for Coronavirus, Doctor Says
This has now become a true crime story although at first I wrote about it in a political post.
The lovely lady blamed President Trump at the time but truth is she was likely trying to poison her husband and kill him.
Which she did.
She says it was President Trump's fault.
An Arizona man died and his wife was hospitalized after officials said they treated themselves on Sunday with a deadly home remedy for the new coronavirus — a popular fish tank additive that has the same active ingredient as an anti-malaria drug.
The drug, known as chloroquine phosphate or chloroquine, has been bandied about by President Trump during White House briefings on the coronavirus pandemic as a potential “game changer” in the treatment of Covid-19.
The couple, who officials at Banner Health, a hospital system based in Phoenix, said were in their 60s and were from Maricopa County, quickly experienced side effects that included nausea and vomiting. They were not tested for the coronavirus.

The police in this story should be working Walmart produce aisles to spot people spitting on produce and sometimes even other people.
But instead they arrest a man, and cuff the guy, in front of his 6 year old daughter with whom he was daring to play a game of ball.
SILLY MAN! Leave the produce-spitters alone and lock up men playing ball with their children.
Yeah. That's the ticket.

Matt Mooney feels Brighton police owe him a huge apology. The 33-year-old says he was handcuffed at Donelson Park in front of his 6-year-old daughter Sunday afternoon after police told him he violated the state’s social distancing guidelines.
Mooney told the FOX31 Problem Solvers he refused to provide his identification to three police officers because he was confident he wasn’t doing anything unlawful by playing tee-ball with his wife and daughter at the park. “She’s like, ‘Daddy, I don’t want you to get arrested.’ At this point, I’m thinking, ‘There’s no way they’re going to arrest me, this is insane.’ I’m telling her, ‘Don’t worry, Daddy’s not going to get arrested. I’ve done nothing wrong. Don’t worry about it,’ and then they arrest me.”
