The TV is mostly background noise to Grandmother but at times there may be a show actually worth attention.
Weird new Discovery Channel Series, ABC brings back Clinton and Dateline features “Women and Sexual Pleasure” while the same network eschews “Saving Private Ryan” for fear of lasciviousness.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 9 pm, Lifetime will feature a docudrama titled “Not My Son”. According to the promo blurb, the story is based on a couple who discover their son is a serial killer. That’s a revelation that will really wreck your day.
Sounds Quirky Enough to be Worth a Look
Thursday’s the big TV night this coming week.On Thursday Nov. 17 at 8 pm, The Discovery Channel is featuring the quirky show of the week. “No Opportunity Wasted” is a strange show, I suppose it’s Discovery’s attempt at a reality series. It’s a strange combination of The Apprentice and a Fashion Makeover show. I tuned in last week and recommend it to yon audience as a good choice for a one time viewing event. Perhaps it will be to some personal liking in which case the show will continue for more viewing pleasure. One assumes.
The idea behind the one hour show is to have two individuals who have a dream they’d like to come true. The show gives selected persons a grand total of $3,000 (a paltry sum to make a dream come true I suggest) and clears the individuals’ schedules to allow them to work on their dream.
This past week there was featured, I’m not making this up, a Jewish Rapper whose dream was to make a rap video so that his mother can witness his incredible talent. Also featured was a loving young man who wanted to have his wife featured on a loud marquee and within the theater, SHE would be the featured star. That’s right, one entire night when his wife could sing her heart out to an audience flushed out of the woodwork by the young husband’s effort and some of that $3K.
The Jewish Rap star, and again I’m not making this up, actually attended the birth of his first child in the middle of all that was involved in making this amazing rap video. The young man whose wife gave up her singing career to move to another state with him, did manage to get a theater book and rustled up an audience such as it was.
It was okay as these things go but a bit unbelievable from my perspective. The wife of the loving husband, hey, I sing better than her and that’s not saying much. As for the Jewish Rapper, well he finally got that video made to his mother’s tears and joy. The idea of an Orthodox Jewish Rapper is just different enough to be worth a shot and indeed, the new father did get a record contract.
On that same night, at 9 pm, thanks to ABC we get to re-visit Bill Clinton. The title of the show is “The Clinton Legacy” but do not barf yet. One can never have enough Clinton at least as the major networks think. They adored him when he was getting Lewinskys in the oval office and now that he’s recovering from heart surgery well, hey, how can ABC resist? NBC will be showing The Apprentice at the same time as an alternate option.
Again on that same evening, at 10 pm, The Food Network will be featuring one of their many Thanksgiving specials. Hey, it’s the Food Network and hey, it’s their time to shine.
Ah, It’s on Friday, Nov. 18, at 8 pm, when Dateline will be featuring a show that, per the advance blurbs, will have a segment called “Women and Sexual Pleasure”. This while the same network was scared to show “Saving Private Ryan” but we know that was a scam. Yon reader should read my missive follow up “Fly on the Wall” later this week to ascertain the scam about the Private Ryan movie. Anyway, myself is going to check it out because, hey, with a title like that, how can I not?
Big TV Event of the Week
On Sunday, Nov. 20, at 10 pm, Food Network is featuring my main cooking man in a show titled “Good Eats Thanksgiving”. Not only is Alton Brown cuter than a bed bug, he’s knowledgeable about his craft and kooky in the presentation.
