Gardening Events of the Year 2004 Just Passed

Major Gardening Events in the year 2004 just passed in Grandmother's Gardens

Early Spring and the Grass is Ugly

This year, Kaitlyn, grandmother has to make sense of that front lawn. For while my gardening and eco-system self has never been a slave to lawns, the complicated system of weeds interspersed with rare stands of grass that comprises our front lawn is not acceptable.

So grandmother schlepps to the hardware store to see what she can find. Kaitlyn they sell bags of stuff that only have to be strewn across the landscape. The bags contain grass seed, mulch, weed killer and fertilizer. One application and the lawn becomes one suitable for the glossy magazines.

God Bless America.

And Then, Like That, the Growing Season is Over

The 2004 Garden Season Ends

There will be times, sweet Granddaughter, when you will see a gardener standing on some raised vantage point and gazing out across the plantings. One would hope that the gardener is resting with admiration for the floral, fauna, and foliage throughout. More likely, Kaitlyn Mae, the gardener is dreaming of new plants to come, assessing the sunlight, rating the aesthetics and this time of year, already deep in plan for next year's garden.

The Plants of Winter

Homage to Indoor Plants: They Help Me Limp Through the Winter

I would hope, sweet Granddaughter, that your house of the moment would always have a few living plants situated at strategic and sunny spots throughout.
It is with much concern that I note how fewer and fewer households have a happy plant of ivy or a delightful fig tree growing within an inside sunbeam while adding the depth such greenery provides to an indoor environment. Scroll down to see the pictures.
