Able Danger-Who Knew What and When

Here it is the biggest scandal to hit the political spectrum since Watergate. In fact, it's bigger than Watergate.

For this scandal involves the actual re-writing of history, the cover-up of advance knowledge of the 9-11 attackers, the theft of top secret documents by a former Director of National Security, and, oddly, the cover up of the cover up by the current administration.

Let's start at the beginning.

It was election year 2004. Two and half years prior the country had been attacked by Al-Queda in the form of several persons led by one Mohamed Atta.

A blue-ribboned commission is formed consisting of several very questionable members. Kind of like putting Kofi Anan on a blue ribbon panel to investigate corruption by the UN, Jamie Gorelick, assistant to Clinton FBI chief Janet Reno was tapped to be on the commission investigating the 9-11 attacks.

The timing of the whole commission was suspect to begin with. Why during an election year? And why so obviously was it formed during an election year that the results would be published before the election?

Why was an actor in the 911 mishap put on the commission?

Why was Sandy Berger caught stuffing top secret documents down his pants of all things? What was he stealing, read that as HIDING, from the 911 commission? And what documents did he successfully destroy?

Because now we find out that not once, but on TWO occasions, a member of the Pentagon addressed the 911 commission regarding an investigation by the Department of Military Intelligence called Able-Danger. This investigation revealed not only Mohamed Atta but three other members of the gang of 21 who rammed airplanes into our lawfully built buildings and killed over 3000 Americans going about their lawful business. Able-Danger identified these guys as a danger to the country and targeted them as members of Al-Queda.

The Clinton administration was notified about Atta but unbelievably, a STICKY NOTE was put over the face of Atta. He was declared untouchable by the FBI at the time as he was allegedly in the country legally. Never mind that this Able-Danger task force targeted him as a part of an Al-Queda cell in this country. Since he was in the country legally (and this is questionable) then all is fine.

So all Al-Queda cells were allowed to operate in the United States during the Clinton administration so long as its members managed to get an illegal driver's license or lie about being a student?

And members of the Clinton administration went to desperate lengths to hide this fact.


Don't tell me about Watergate. THIS is the exact sort of thing we don't want our government doing. And yet Willie J and his politically ambitious wife managed to pull this off and effectively re-write history. To cover up advance knowledge of an attack on the United States makes Watergate pale in comparison.

For that 911 commission report is now a part of history. So flawed an accounting of history that one can only hope that the Blogosphere rages with anger.

What was included in the 911 commission report was NOT how it happened.

Oh, and those 911 commission members?

They've spent the last two days lying like experts. Yesterday they said the 911 commission staff failed to mention these Pentagon briefings to the vaunted commissioners.

When all else fails, blame the staff.

This morning's lie was that no one from Able-Danger talked to the 911 commission. So the Pentagon produces proof that they spoke to the 911 commission, not once, but twice. One time within a week of the final report of the 911 commission.

This afternoon's lie is that hey, yeah, the 911 commission met with the Pentagon Able-Danger, damn for a moment we forgot all about it.

This evening's lie is that the commission members had some "issues" with the Able-Danger report as presented by Pentagon representatives.

The issues the 911 commission claims to have had with the Pentagon people concerns timelines for Mohamed Atta's first appearance in this country. Not that we should believe the 911 commission after a day and a half of lies but this is their latest lie and for now, they're sticking to it.

The 911 commission says that "travel records" show that Atta didn't come to America until 2000. The Able-Danger group show Atta in America in 1999.

Now of course we should merrily accept the 911 commission's reason for ignoring the Able-Danger people due to that time line issue. Not that Atta couldn't have come to America under another name or hey, maybe someone misled the 911 commission about Atta's appearance in America to protect their legacy and politically ambitious wife.

Just throwing it out there.

The 911 commission ignored the findings of the Able-Danger task force. Sandy Berger stole top secret documents. The infamous builder of "The Wall" which disallowed communication between the FBI and intelligence agencies, Jamie Gorelick, was on the 911 commission when she should have been sitting in the hot seat.

I'm not giving Bush a pass either.

Surely this administration knew about this Able-Danger group while that 911 commission was in session. Don't tell me not.

So why wasn't the administration shouting this from the rooftops? Why did this administration allow history to be altered in the form of a bogus 911 commission report that my precious granddaughter might have to someday read as an American history assignment?

Why is Curt Weldon, during this hot and hazy August, only NOW out and about and telling us all about these lies?

It was US, ordinary American citizens, who were killed in the 911 attacks. It is our children and grandchildren who will be forced to swallow this 911 commission swill as if it were the truth.

They ALL let us down.

The Clinton administration is in this knee deep. Bush had no business covering this up that his election be unfettered and clouded with Clintonian debates.

But hey, it's only us peons who suffer from the lies of those who would keep their power at all costs.
