Crazy Abdul
Seems somewhere in the midst of each American Idol competition, Paula Abdul manages to get embroiled in some controversy. One year she even managed to get "involved" with one of the contestants!
This year there's already been rumors about Paula's unusual behavior, even insinuating that she would be replaced by Jessica Simpson.
We don't know if some of those rumors are just hype to keep the series' in the news. Could be the truth, who knows?
Now we have Paula attacked and suffering injuries at a recent party. Although Paula's been on the job for every AI show.
From SFGate:
"American Idol" judge Paula Abdul suffered back injuries and concussion after being attacked at a private party on April 2.
Police are investigating the case as battery, but have no suspects. Former pop singer Abdul reported the incident to authorities on Tuesday.
The 43-year-old says the injuries were caused during an argument that saw her slammed against the wall by a man.
Los Angeles police spokeswoman April Harding says, "She claimed she was at a private party on April 2nd and that at 1 a.m. an argument occurred between her and a man and that the man grabbed her by the arm and threw her against a wall.
"She claimed to have suffered a concussion and spinal injuries. She saw her own doctor and at the time of the report said she would make herself available for photographs (of her injuries)."
Despite the incident, Abdul has made regular appearances on live "American
Idol" shows this week.
Kelly Pickler-the Picture Rocking the Internet
Before regarding the picture below, be advised now that it is believed that Kelly's dress has been photoshopped by some Internet prankster. For if you look right below Kelly's navel in the pic below, it almost looks as if she's showing some naughty parts that shouldn't oughta be showed.
Mandisa
There was a recent brouhaha over the now-eliminated Mandisa. Seems she sang a gospel song with lyrics that COULD be interpreted to be anti-homosexual.
Adding to the furor, Mandisa lists as one of her personal heroines one Beth Moore. Moore wrote a book that also seems to be condemning homosexuality and offers release from this "affliction" through prayer and love of Jesus.
Mandisa totally disavowed any anti-homosexuality sentiments.
From the Advocate:
For the episode's "Songs of the 21st Century" theme, Mandisa chose the Mary Mary gospel belter "Wanna Praise You," preceding the song with the following introduction: "This song goes out to everybody that wants to be free. Your addiction, lifestyle, or situation may be big, but God is bigger!" In the taped segment beforehand, Mandisa said the song "means a lot to me because it's a testimony that there's nothing too hard for God."
Ryan and Hatcher
We'll just quote that bit about the lip lock between Desperate Housewivess' Terri Hatcher and American Idol's Ryan Seacrest.
If there is any truth to this tale, given the rumors about Seacrest's sexuality, than we either have a helluva strange love affair in the works or it's a tidbit meant to quell the Seacrest rumors.
From the Post Chronicle
According to People magazine.
Terri Hatcher ('Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman',
'Desperate Housewives') and Ryan Seacrest ('American Idol').

Thoughts, Comments, Opinions and Analyses on the American Idol's "Queen" Night.
(editor-the text below was written before the elimination from the "Queen" show. Thus my guesses on the bottom three were written before the elimination. At the end of this narrative will be the actual AI contestant eliminated from the competition on the evening of April 11, 2006.)
Queen?
That was the first word that flashed through my mind after Seacrest announced the featured artists for the songs to be sung the evening of 4/11/06, with only eight contestants left.
Again, I asked my muse...Queen?
My goodness, my muse thought. Songs by "Queen" would likely be the most difficult to sing in this contest. At least I surmised. Strains of "We Will Rock You" and dear Lord, "Bohemian Rhapsody", wafted through my disbelieving mind.
And yet, to my surprise, several of Queen's songs were sung very well by these brave final contestants in this, the fifth year of American Idol
.
And by some very surprising contestants. More on this later.
First, perhaps it's just me. But there seems to be a problem with the music on this series. Or else every single contestant sings too low. Because entirely too often the singer-contestant is singing a song perfectly on key and yet the audience can't hear the words! This because the background band drowns them out.
This band problem was especially evident during this Queen competition.
Which could be part of the problem in that Queen has got to be a difficult group from which to cull songs which will resonate with the audience. Freddy Mercury had one of those most, well I think his voice was beautiful for want of a better adjective, but I wouldn't want to sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" at even the most bawdy of Karaoke parties and even if I was knock-down drunk.
Which leads me to Kelly Pickler, of all contestants, who did sing this tune and to my surprise, this performance was one of the best of the evening.
Kelly was attired in rocker-like apparel and sported a straight platinum blond hairstyle that was miles away from her country roots and rural fashion. Kelly also moved around a lot as she sung and her performance was pleasing to the eyes as well as the ears.
Randy said Kelly "worked it out" and Simon deemed Kelly to be a "very brave girl".
Bucky Covington began the festivities with the song "Fat Bottom Girls". I thought his performance was pleasant enough but it was far from the best of the evening. Simon declared to Bucky that the song was "bigger than him".
Ace Young followed up with Queen's famous "We Will Rock You". Here was a singer totally drowned out during certain song parts by the band. Now I suppose this could be the fault of the singer but every one of them? Also, the nature of this song is to have a loud background chorus singing the song title and by the time Ace was done it was if the band and chorus performed while Ace was almost lip-syncing his part.
Randy declared Ace's choice to be a "big song" and Simon asserted that Ace forgot his words and the performance was a "complete utter mess".
I agree with Simon and predict that Ace will be one of the bottom three in the elimination round on 4/12/06.
Ah, the bald contestant this year who continues to wow with each performance. I speak of Chris Daughtry, a fellow I dismissed early on as not having a chance. Chris sang a tune I'd never heard of, titled "Innuendo".
I thought Chris rocked and rolled and displayed some amazing vocals. Randy said Chris "delivered" but Simon stated Chris' performance "disappointed".
Next up Katharine McPhee performed another song I didn't know titled "Who Wants to Live Forever". Now I am no musical expert beyond your average American voting in this thing. But I did not like McPhee's performance at all. She certainly looked pretty but I thought the song sounded slightly off.
Randy and Paula thought McPhee did a good job. Simon declared that Katharine "almost" pulled it off.
I predict Katharine will be down in that final three when the votes are tallied.
Elliott Yamin performed "Somebody to Love". It was a pleasant listen but frankly, did nothing for me.
Randy and Simon thought Eliott did "okay". Paula declared it the best performance of the evening.
I predict that Taylor Hicks will find himself in the bottom three for the first time in this competition. Taylor performed the well known tune "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".
I don't especially like Taylor in general as a possible winning contestant in this series. But the performance on the night of the Queen competition by Mr. Hicks was totally not good at all.
Randy and Paula liked Taylor's performance. Simon termed it "ridiculous". I agree with Simon.
Paris Bennett is another hot little singer whose performances have consistently impressed me. By me, Paris is a born entertainer and it shows every time she takes that stage. Paris is also the youngest contender in this final eight but I'd argue that's more proof that this kid was born to sing and entertain us as is her God given talent.
Paris sang "The Show Must Go On". This impressive child came out with the leather look of a devoted rocker, complete with straight hair that moved with the song.
Here was another song that the band drowned out the singer and I'll never be convinced that Paris was at fault.
The songs of Queen are not Paris' genre yet she pulled it off.
A real entertainer would pull off a song not in their genre, further proof that Paris has something going for her.
Randy declared Paris "worked it out".
I have name my bottom three. This will be the week Bucky Covington finally gets booted off, I predict. I reserve the notion that Taylor's performance was so awful that he might also walk the walk.
The Elimination-4/12/06
A surprise, at least to me, was that Elliott Yamin was in the bottom three. Ace Young was no surprise. Bucky Covington was also in the bottom three.
The result? Bucky Covington sent home.
