Political Tidbits-Forget His Middle Name-An Obama Problem Worse Than Being a Terrorist

Some Political Tidbits and some new thoughts on Obama. I thought his middle name would be his downfall but now I discover something even more sinister about the man, something worst than being a terrorist.

Also, what's this petition to "relieve Valerie Plame" all about? The Matthews and Fund flap, and heh, the Muslims are all upset about the TV series "24".

Seems the show identified Muslims as terrorists. Who would imagine such a thing?

Finally, some quick and dirty thoughts on last night's SOTU address.

Quote of the Day
FACTS ABOUT THE MINIMUM WAGE

"Of the 75.6 million paid by the hour, 1.9 million earn the federal minimum or less, and of these, more than half are under 25 and more than a quarter are between 16 and 19. Many are students or other part-time workers. Sixty percent of those earning the federal minimum or less work in restaurants and bars and are earning tips in addition to their wages.

".(T)he minimum wage should be the same everywhere: $0. Labor is a commodity; governments make messes when they decree commodities' prices. Washington, which has its hands full delivering the mail and defending the shores, should let the market do well what Washington does poorly. But that is a good idea whose time will never come."

She Was First to Go Over Niagara Falls

Annie Edson Taylor (1838-April 29, 1921) became the first person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel on October 24, 1901. She felt her job as a schoolteacher in Bay City, Michigan was too insignificant, and believed that going over the falls would bring her fame and fortune.

Taylor used a pickle barrel for her trip, constructed of oak and iron and padded with a mattress. The barrel was put over the side of a rowboat, and Annie climbed in. After screwing down the lid, friends used a bicycle tire pump to compress the air in the barrel. The hole used for this was plugged with a cork, and Taylor was set adrift near the American shore, north of Goat Island.

The Niagara River currents carried the barrel toward the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, which has since been the site for all daredevil stunting at Niagara Falls. Rescuers reached her barrel shortly after the plunge, and Taylor was discovered to be alive though somewhat battered.

Her first words after she emerged from the barrel were... "No one ought ever do that again!"

    State of the Union 1/23/07

I have but a few thoughts on last night's SOTU address. Even fewer of these thoughts are about President Bush's speech itself. Some of my thoughts are gossip, pure and simple.

Let's start with the speech. So okay, it was a SOTU speech. And like all SOTU speeches before, it means pretty much nothing. Also like all SOTU speeches before, everything was promised and more likely, nothing will be delivered. I really resented Bush's promise to back federal funding to look into the "serious matter" of Global Warming. I don't believe there is such a thing as Global Warming and I resent that the President of my country adds legitimacy to the myth by appearing to endorse it without reservation.

Now about Nancy Pelosi... I do think this woman, in her mid-60's, has the best plastic surgeon on the planet. She really does look nice. Hillary looked right nice too, by the way, and she's another one with a great plastic surgeon. I did think that Pelosi's outfit was way too plain although taste is a personal thing, I understand. Hey, if I was making my debut as the very first female Speaker of the House I'd wear me a stylish yet sane navy blue suit...a flared at the bottom skirt, perhaps, and a cropped jacket with handsome gold buttons. I pair the suit with a bright red satin blouse. Add some small diamond earrings and a tiny but exquisite necklace and, of course, a nice American flag pin on the collar and boom, I'd be sitting there in your face and shining bright.

I've always heard that Shiela Lee went to great lengths to get herself in the picture with the President although she goes on the pundit shows and professes to hate the man. Last night I saw Ms. Lee in action and it was almost sad, ladies and gems. The woman had Bush sign two programs and then kept talking to him even though he obviously had to move on. When he finally did, she just stood there, looking all sad and I thought...so who is the REAL Shiela Lee? Is she the one who lambastes Bush every chance she gets or is she the sad and forlorn woman I saw standing and watching the President move on, leaving her all alone?

As for newly-elected Senator Webb from Virginia and his after-SOTU Democratic response, hey...there is something seriously wrong with this guy's hair. Oh, and he's a lousy pundit and how about this whopper from his rebuttal..."The majority of the military are against the war in Iraq"? I paraphrase but go on, where did Webb get this statistic? I don't believe it for a minute and must wonder, can you just, boom, make up lies and stuff and just...like...say whatever you want?

    Moving on....

    CAIR Takes on Jack Bauer

I don't recall enjoying any public griping more, including the feud between Rose and The Donald, than the flap CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) is making over the new season of "24".

    From Breitbart.com:
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said "24's" season premiere, in which Islamic terrorists detonated a nuclear bomb near Los Angeles, risked stoking racial hatred.

The criticism was swiftly rejected by the show's network Fox Broadcasting, which said the series did not single out ethnic groups to be villains.

"The raw emotional impact of fictional scenes that include widespread death and destruction in America may adversely affect the public's attitude toward civil liberties, religious freedom and interfaith relations," the CAIR statement said.

Guess what CAIR's upset about? Get this...the organization resents that the terrorists who nuked Los Angeles this season are, gasp, MUSLIMS!

Now everybody knows that Muslims are never terrorists and God forbid that anyone would dare create a FICTION show depicting them as such.

In fact, CAIR does have a point. For this season's "24" has begun with a bang, a nuclear one at that. I think this year's "24" theme COULD cause viewers to stop and think a bit more about the menace of the Islamofacists. Fox's "24" has featured plenty of terrorists in the past, some Russian, some Chinese...hey, terrorists of all nationalities. None of those countrie's people went all over TV and complained but the Muslims? Hey, they're special.

    Heh.

    The Sunday Talk Shows

One of my volunteer "jobs" is compiling a top ten poster list for the web site FreeRepublic for its weekly live thread for the Sunday morning political talk shows. So I'm sharing my compilation here on this Blog. For in all of the Internet, you'll not get more witty and insightful commentary on the politicos and pundits that sparkle our Sunday mornings than on FreeRepublic and from Freeper posters.

    =======================================

Couple of points regarding the FreeRepublic Sunday Morning Talk Show Thread HERE.

First, we're sure things will start picking up what with the holidays behind us and the 2008 election looming. For now, the normal Sunday thread is a bit barer than normal thus the pickings are slimmer. I culled ten posters but frankly everyone who took the time to post on this past week's thread should win a prize.

Second, I will including this post, since I write it in HTML already and won't have to repeat the work, in full on my own Blog. Two or three people a day read my Blog so who knows what kind of traffic we'll bring in.

Got the idea from Phssssstpok, forgive if I've misspelled.

    Now on to the winnahs!

Two great pics on this week's thread and coming in at number ten, we have a tie.

The winner this week is a lady. In fact, the top three this week, I THINK, are female.

CM begins by making an unarguable point

Then CM treats us to some Nancy Pelosi insight.

The best of all is CM's post on wives and presidential contenders.

Heh. The above post was so good it even got an on-the-spot, ad hoc award HERE

Nothing like personal experience to enlighten and in this post CM tells us her experience in this country's mixed up education system.

Obama's Problem and It's Worse Than If He Were a Known Terrorist

Ladies and gems, I have discovered something about Barack Obama that gives me great pause as to his political future and no, it's not his middle name. Which is a problem, make no mistake, a candidate for President with a middle name of HUSSEIN, I've said it before and I say it now.

But the dirty little secret I've discovered convinces me irrefutably that Barack doesn't have a chance to be this country's President and frankly he should impeached from his job as Senator, it's so bad.

    obamafor American Idol cartoon

For Barack Obama, ladies and gems, is a SMOKER!

Well you may as well label the man as a known terrorist and he'd be better off. For smokers, ladies and gems, are ALL known terrorists.

Now here's another dirty little secret....

MY OWN WISE SELF HAS STOPPED SMOKING!

    Write this down.

And I, ladies and gems, am not even running for President and even I, a former chain smoker, finally threw in the towel and decided to shed the pariah status all smokers must bear and get with the program.

I softly suggest that Barack get some COMMIT or other nicotine aid and quit the habit.

Not that I have anything against smokers and take the position that if our nanny government wants to eliminate smoking they ought to grow a pair and BAN CIGARETTES COMPLETELY!

Sure, make smokers take their annoying smoke elsewhere away from the innocent non-smokers and tax the hell out of tobacco but the hysteria in this country over smoking gives me the creeps. Next....you all just wait and I shall say I tole you so....FAST FOOD WILL BE BANNED.

Then, of course, we must ban ugly ties and goodness got to get rid of perfumes and annoying odors.

But I've quit ladies and gems, yes I have, and I'd argue that with all those nicotine withdrawal products available, anyone can quit. I went from three packs a day to .....NONE.

Surely Obama has as much willpower as me?

Here's a Cute Valerie Plame Tidbit

The danger of the proposal is indicated right away by the title "For the Relief of Valerie Plame ..."

Plame is the would-be "spy" who was allegedly "outed" by Scooter Libby. Whose trial is beginning right now in D.C., folks.

Only Plame is NOT a spy and the real leaker has already been identified and it wasn't Scooter Libby.

Now this proposal to give this lying clerical worker at the NSA her retirement benefits EARLY.

Soros Drops Hillary Support for Obama

One of the more intriguing political tidbits this week is Hillary's announcement that she intends to run for President.

Perhaps her announcement was prompted by the hype Obama's been getting and the following bit of news.

    From the NY Daily News:
On the eve of her historic presidential announcement, Hillary Clinton lost the support of liberal big-ticket donor George Soros to the Barack Obama campaign, the Daily News has learned.
Soros' switch was a stunner in the Clinton camp, which had hoped to woo him back amid a flurry of exchanges.

"There were e-mails and conference calls," said one Democrat familiar with the shock that met the Soros defection. A spokesman for Soros stressed that he would support Clinton if she wins the Democratic nomination and noted he supported Obama's 2004 Senate campaign.

George Soros is a bazillionaire who thinks only HE has the right to decide who should be America's president and he is not hesitant to throw his money around. Now we hear he's dropping Hillary and putting his bucks behind Obama. Whose middle name is HUSSEIN by the way, and who SMOKES.

Anyway, Hillary's got this new thing going on...she's having an "open dialogue" on the Internet?

I swear to God will this woman ever sit down with a real journalist and get asked some real hard questions, face-to-face and without a huge staff telling her how to move, where to look and what to say? Over the Internet?

But it's just practice for her, isn't it?

Crazy Chris Is At It Again

Chris Matthews HATES Dick Cheney. Write that down.

Sure he's a pundit and pundits have opinions and biases. Matthews has a most unreasonable hatred for Dick Cheney and what with this Scooter trial going on, this blond D.C. metrosexual is in an almost orgiastic state of joy over the prospect.

Turns out Matthews had a run-in with guest pundit John Fund recently and like all of those infamous Matthews' moments, his detachment from reality is very evident.

    From FreeRepublic.com:
Matthews: "They did make the claim they [Iraq] had a nuclear weapon."

Fund: "No!! They did not claim they had a nuclear weapon! Give me the statement!

Matthews offered up only a statement that Iraq had a delivery system for a nuclear weapon.

Fund: "Chris, do you believe North Korea has a nuclear weapon?"

Matthews, some serious dead air: "I don't know."

Fund: "You don't?? We know they do! They've announced it!!"

Matthews: "OK. But what's the point? What's the point here?"

North Korea publicly announced it had nuclear weapons and Matthews didn't know it?
