Web Site Worth the Visit
Help for Your Event

It would turn out that a group of Delaware Bloggers are to be attending a get-together in the swamps of Delaware. The organizer used the web site EVITE.com and in its usage I was continually intrigued.

First, of course, one must enter the invitees into the Evite database for the event. Then all the details regarding attendance, RSVP's, directions, notification of other invitees of changes and/or any froufrou required to manage invitees is handled electronically with little fuss.

I responded to the invitation, I got all directions, times and dates as required AND I asked to be notified of the response of all other invitees, either yea or nay. Each day updates arrived in my Ebox and right now I must ask...if you're not organizing your party with the help of Evite, why not?

TIDBITS

The History of 'APRONS'

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids. And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

American Idol 2007 Goes to Birmingham, Alabama

We are to understand that Birmingham, Alabama is home to more AI stars than any other single city in America. Its AI graduates include Beau Bice, Taylor Hicks and Rueben Stoddard. We are also to understand that the American Idol mobile unit has NEVER made an official visit to Birmingham.

So they did the night of 1/30/07.

Below some pic montages of a few of the tryouts for the evening with both the "duds" and the real possibilities.

As for my assessment of the contenders from Birmingham, the contestant who talked exactly like a duck stands out more than any other.

Yes she does and when she first spoke for the cameras my first reaction was astonishment. Surely, I thought, an individual who sounds like Daffy Duck will never enter the rarified air of American Idol stardom?

Yet she DID get a coveted gold ticket and will be moving on to Hollywood. And yes, the duck-talker sang quite well. This alone should intrigue us enough to watch where this goes.

Apprentice LA-Crazy Chickens

The task this week was to create a new chicken dish for the Pollo Loco chain, market and sell it. First thing, Surya was moved (he volunteered) from the Kinetic team to the Arrow team. I didn't understand a word Surya said when he went to his new team and frankly, don't know why this move was even effected except to even out the team members, I suppose.

Aaron headed the Arrow team while Heidi headed the Kinetic team. Heidi's been team manager since the beginning of time it seems.

So Arrow comes up with the simple and straightforward "chicken tortilla bowl" while the Kinetic teams creates something called "Paradise Bowl". Their concoction had mango in the ingredients and right there we have failure. At least as I see it as mango has to be the worst tasting fruit on the planet. I understand that several gazillion people disagree with me but hey, I'm not at all convinced Americans are ready for fast food chicken and mango.

Whatever the case, Kinetic team member Marisa did her darndest to get her team to call the dish "Bravado Bowl" and begged Heidi to send a pair of humans costumed as chickens down to the street corner to lure in pedestrian traffic.

Meanwhile Arrow gets in a van and goes out and about the town taking orders for their chicken tortilla bowl and at one point gets an order for 22 of them! With some gay balloons floating about and curbside greeters, Arrow does pull in the customers.

But of course, and about time, Arrow wins the task.

It was kind of sad that Marisa got fired in that she was right about the marketing. For Kinetic failed to bring in the customers and those giant chickens she wanted could have brought in more traffic.

Only thing is, by the time Marisa got done in that board room I was ready to not only fire Marisa, I first wanted to slap her silly for about an hour.

The woman would NOT shut up!

Now I don't suppose she had anything to lose as it was obvious her job was on the line. But Marisa did have some grievances in that she tried, unsucessfully, to get her team to change its marketing strategy, much less the name of their product. She felt wronged when her team lost and she felt that she had the right ideas if only her team mates had listened. Which may or may not be true and no one can really know this. Marisa's behavior at the board meeting was anything but professional.

Marisa was fired. Heidi is no longer project manager extraordinaire. Kinetic goes to the godawful tents.

DISCLAIMER: Movie Reviews

I never see a first-run movie so any movie reviews I do are likely older ones. But if you're looking to rent a DVD for the weekend, or just want a new perspective on a movie you remember fondly, or not-so-fondly, read on.

"The Producers"-A Musical For ...well, PRODUCERS

STARS:
Nathan Lane .... Max Bialystock
Matthew Broderick .... Leo Bloom
Uma Thurman .... Ulla
Will Ferrell .... Franz Liebkind
Gary Beach .... Roger DeBris
Roger Bart .... Carmen Ghia

IMDB site for this movie.

This movie was (or maybe still IS) a smash-hit Broadway play. In fact, as I understood it the time I watched an interview with a producer of the Broadway hit "The Producers", heh, it was almost impossible to get tickets to the play. I wondered at the time what would make a Broadway show such a hit that obtaining tickets was nigh on impossible. Now that I've seen the movie, I think I understand why.

For "The Producers" is a story of, go with me here, PRODUCERS. Those would be people who produce stuff, with the "stuff" produced generally referring to a play or movie in the more popular jargon of the word. Of course Producers would love a story about Producers. And Producers have all sorts of contacts in the ticket-buying-selling-distributing world.

Montage 2

Which is not to infer that this show was sucessful only because it appealed to Producers but I seriously doubt it would have been so wildly sucessful had it been titled "The Accountants" even though one of the story's main characters was an Accountant.

Montage 3

The movie version of this musical was very entertaining. It was funny, irreverent, a bit tongue-in-cheek and self-deprecating to Producers everywhere.

A down-and-out Producer teams up with a world weary Accountant to produce a play that they know will fail. The Accountant, played by Matthew Broderick, has a scheme that will effectively bilk investers of a losing venture out of their contributions. Max Bialystock, played by Nathan Lane, has plenty of such investers to bilk and these two would-be flim-flam artists embark upon what should be an easy feat...produce a big flop on Broadway.

One would think a musical about Hitler would be just the ticket. Except the Hitler show becomes a smashing success and the team of ersatz flop Producers lost their chance at quick and dirty money.

As with most musicals, the story flits here and there. The songs and dances are meant to entertain and they do. The Producers has some of the best song and dance combinations of any movie musical I've seen in quite a while.

We've got costumes that will astound, songs that will smile down upon the ears and dancing that takes such movement to new and amazing heights.

Yes I'd recommend this movie hands down for a couple of hours of entertainment. As to whether it was "all that" from the hit Broadway musical, well I must wonder.
