Daily Miscellany

Thoughts and flashes of brilliance that enter my head from nowhere.

Enjoy.  Or abhor, depending on the effect of my "wisdom".

Surviving the Grocery Store

Thing are mostly calm here in lower and slower Delaware.  The other day I went to the grocery store after a week without.  They had no chicken or eggs.  Here we are in the heart of chicken country in Delmarva AND WE HAVE NO CHICKEN????

Also went to the doctors, although reluctant they told me everything would be fine.  This was for a checkup appointment that I've had for a year and have every year.  And, indeed, they all washed their hands before touching, put on rubber gloves and yes myself had a tin of sanitary wipes that I used.

We'll get this thing under control.

The Status of Toilet Paper

Not for the life of me do I understand the hoopla over toilet paper.  I am from the state of Maryland and, every time the weather man dared to whisper the prospect of snow the stores were immediately over-run with shoppers grabbing all the toilet paper.

Myself, at times, included.

I suppose that when faced with an event that might cut off stuff we really, really need, toilet paper fills our heads.

Yes we need food.  But should snow cut out our electricity our food might go bad.  We might not be able to open canned goods with our electric can openers.  Clothes won't do us much good, fancy shoes, designer handbags.  Hell even a new car won't help if snowed in under a blizzard.

Or we can't drive because the government has us all confined to our homes.

But toilet paper?  We can keep toilet paper on hand for centuries.  It won't spoil, it requires no additional work to use it.

It's symbolic is what I'm saying here.  It's what we feel can carry us through the rough times when civilization is temporarily taken away from us.

Kenya's rare white female giraffe 'killed by poachers'

I cannot imagine what gain could be made by killing these beautiful and very special animals.

Sad and very pathetic.

The rare white giraffe, which has been killed by poachers in KenyaKenya’s only female white giraffe and her calf have been killed by poachers, conservationists have said, in a major blow to conservation of the rare animals found nowhere else in the world.

The bodies of the two giraffes were found “in a skeletal state after being killed by armed poachers” in Garissa in eastern Kenya, the Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy said in a statement.

Is it okay to dye our dogs' fur?

I chanced to come across a Facebook post which featured dogs that had their fur dyed by their owners.

There was argument on the provided web post that it was humiliating to the animal to dye their fur.

Well I think that mutilating the fur of gorgeous collie or even a Siamese cat to be kind of silly.

And some dye jobs for the pups might attract attention not wanted that might lead to nasty people mistreating.

But it doesn't happen that often and the matter is mostly not a big deal.

Kangaroo Caught Eating Toilet Paper in Campground Bathroom

And so even the kangaroos are eating the toilet paper!

See, it's not only humans.

A visitor to a campground in Australia captured video of a different type of toilet paper shortage -- a kangaroo raiding rolls from the restroom.

The filmer said they have been traveling the country in a camper with their family for the year, and they were stopped this week at the Wilpena Pound campground in South Australia.

The video shows a kangaroo inside the campground's restroom eating toilet paper from a bathroom stall.

And below our dog buddies take to attacking the cherished toilet paper.

Again it's not only humans.
