Political...the Corona virus

Daily Miscellany

Thoughts and flashes of brilliance that enter my head from nowhere.

Enjoy.  Or abhor, depending on the effect of my "wisdom".

It's not that I don't believe there is a new virus out and about and people are catching it, people are getting sick, people are dying.

But as of this writing the affected rate is around 2200 and the death toll is around 50, most from a nursing home in Washington state that was not paying attention.

The "normal" common flu , to my surprise, affects approximately 80,000 people with over 13,000 deaths.  I read these numbers somewhere and my ageing memory might be off.  But for sure 40 deaths is nowhere near 13,000.

America is handling this whole thing very well and allow me to insert my pride in leadership, but President Trump is doing a wonderful job.

And there has been passed legislation that will help Americans who caught the virus through no fault of their own.  I am quite sure that businesses economically hurt by this epidemic will be cared for by the American powers that be, government and private industry combined.

This is America.  You don't see South Korea or China promising to pay disability as needed.  Italy's not going to boost up any pizza makers any time soon.

After this is all over, and hey, spring is almost here and flu season will be done....we will have virus testing kits that we can buy at the grocery store.  Hey, we can send in our DNA to discover our heritage, something not done before.  We can mail in our stool samples to test for colon cancer.  Some enterprising drug company will discover and market virus test kits and soon, the vaccine against same, that we will be able to buy from the grocery store.

Some other American entrepreneur will invent a device that we can attach to the inside of our clothes that will dispense a sanitary wipe with a quick flick.

Hey, working from home!  I was once a women's libber, for which I am not proud, and while I loved to work, the worst part of a full time job was the damn commute.  From this we will adapt and learn how to work from home, saving on gas and time to get more done.

Yes, it's been anxiety causing and the toilet paper frenzy defies any sort of common sense.

But this is America.

We shall lead the way and the world shall follow.

House passes emergency coronavirus package to boost testing and help sick and idled workers..(in the dead of night)

Below info on the first time both parties came together for the greater good of American citizens although Nancy Pelosi's efforts to pay for abortions via this bill kinda stinks.

And the bit about providing food for children kept home from school because they always get their lunch at school....sheesh.....always wanting hands in the cookie jar.

The House voted just before 1 a.m. Saturday to pass an emergency coronavirus response bill to increase testing and aid people kept from work, a measure meant for quick signing by President Trump next week as the government tries to arrest the pandemic.

The final vote was 363 to 40, with one member voting "present."

"Our bill which is basically intact what we are passing," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, referring to the Democrats' original coronavirus package released on Wednesday.

"And there's some things that they wanted that we have to put off until the next time because it just came in late, you know," said Pelosi, referring to Republican requests to change the bill
The legislation, which is expected to be approved by the GOP Senate when it returns next week, came after intense talks between Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, which continued through the evening Friday.

The legislation will provide for free coronavirus testing, guarantee workers two weeks of paid sick leave, up to three months of paid leave, increase unemployment benefits, lunches for children who would normally eat at school, and increase Medicaid funding.

The world is a better place with Joy Behar in hiding.

The virus did bring some good after all.

While neither she nor any of the show’s staff have tested positive for the coronavirus, Behar is heeding the entreaties of her daughter to stay at home for the time being.

Behar is expected to be absent from the show all next week and will evaluate her situation after that.

“I’m in a higher risk group because of my age, but I’m perfectly healthy,” Behar says on the episode, according to Variety. “I don’t look my age, but I’m actually up there. The number makes me dizzy.”

Dow soars nearly 2,000 points in post-meltdown rally

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/stocks/ar-BB112FMf

Stocks ended sharply higher after a volatile session Friday as Wall Street rebounded from the deep losses suffered in the previous session, the worst since the Black Monday market crash in 1987.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1,985 points, or 9.3%.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also surged 9.3%. The averages posted their biggest one-day gains since October 2008.

Yes I've lost a bunch of bucks but it's coming back.  In due course our economy will recover completely.
