Political :Democrat legislator thanks Trump for virus cure; Abortion in Texas....much more.

Daily Miscellany

Thoughts and flashes of brilliance that enter my head from nowhere.

Enjoy.  Or abhor, depending on the effect of my "wisdom".

Since this is a political post I will politically note that President Trump, during news conferences, allows the journalist questioners ask too many questions.

This is not a criticism, do not misunderstand.  Trump will often stop, after almost an hour of very boring questions from journalists who annoy the hell out of me, and ask if all is done and do they want him to stop now.

Seems to me he's just being polite.  Sure, like politicians everywhere Trump might like his glory in the spotlight but he politely offers to go away and I find myself mentally shouting to the man DON'T ASK.  Because given a choice, the media reporters will NEVER want to stop.

Michigan Democratic lawmaker says hydroxychloroquine saved her life

This has been a major story this past week and it's a good one.

She's a Democrat but no mind the political party affiliation.  She gives President trump what she considers a beneficiary by his leadership as President Trump did praise the COVID-19 medical cure as he believes in it.

And so did this state lawmaker of Michigan who moved some mountains, got some, and hails her cure.

A Michigan state lawmaker infected with COVID-19 is crediting the controversial anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine with saving her life — saying she felt better within a few hours of taking her prescription.
Dem rep credits hydroxychloroquine — and Trump — in coronavirus fight
Democratic state Rep. Karen Whitsett of Detroit told FOX News’ “The Ingraham Angle” Monday that she went into home quarantine on March 12, the day she last attended a session at the State House in Lansing, and her condition only got worse from there.

“It took the longest [time] for me to actually be able to get an appointment and getting with my doctor, which was the 18th of March, and then actually getting the COVID test,” Whitsett said on the program.

She initially thought she’d contracted a bout of pneumonia and was prescribed the antibiotic amoxicillin.

But then on March 31, she tested positive for COVID-19. By then, she said, her condition had “just plummeted.”

“It went from the headaches being severe to fluid building up in my lungs, to sweats breaking out to the cough and my breathing being labored,” Whitsett said. “It all happened in a matter of hours.”
At the hospital, Whitsett learned that the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, under Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, had issued a state order prohibiting the use of hydroxychloroquine. Though that order was retracted several days later, at the time, Whitsett struggled to get her hands on the medication.

Planned Parenthood asks U.S. Supreme Court to allow them to commit abortions in Texas

This story and the one below is about the kerfluffle about abortions taking place in Texas.  Seems Texas has determined that abortion is not a necessary surgical procedure.

The news item below this one is about employees of Planned Parenthood in Texas who feel they are being mistreated because of the court actions against that organization.

https://www.liveaction.org/news/planned-parenthood-supreme-court-commit-abortions-texas/

After the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s ban on abortion during the COVID-19 pandemic, Planned Parenthood has refused to back down. The abortion corporation is partnering with the Center for Reproductive Rights and the Lawyering Project to take the case before the Supreme Court, so they can be allowed to commit abortions in Texas while the pandemic continues.

Planned Parenthood is hoping the Supreme Court will reinstate a restraining order allowing both chemical and surgical abortions to be committed. Judge Lee Yeakel had previously ruled that the ban on unnecessary surgical procedures, which Gov. Abbott said does include abortions, would cause women to “suffer serious and irreparable harm.” Gov. Abbott’s executive order on unnecessary procedures was meant to preserve hospital bed capacity and personal protective equipment (PPE) as much as possible. Any abortion not considered medically necessary to save the life or health of the mother was not allowed, and abortionists who violate the order face a $1,000 fine or 180 days of jail time. (Read more here about why abortion — the intentional destruction of a preborn child — is never medically necessary.)

After Yeakel instituted the restraining order on the ban, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed it on April 7th, and Planned Parenthood has been unable to commit abortions since then. “‘[U]nder the pressure of great dangers,’ constitutional rights may be reasonably restricted ‘as the safety of the general public may demand,'” the majority opinion read. “That settled rule allows states to restrict, for example, one’s right to peacefully assemble, to publicly worship, to travel, and even to leave one’s home. The right to abortion is no exception.”

Planned Parenthood employees laid off, claim it’s retaliation for voicing concerns (Texas)

So they are trying to form a union and end up without any job.

Heh.

https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/planned-parenthood-employees-laid-off-claim-its-retaliation-for-voicing-concerns/

More than a dozen workers at Planned Parenthood clinics across Austin are now without a job. They say they believe it’s direct retaliation for both voicing complaints to the CEO and their ongoing efforts to unionize within the past year.

Planned Parenthood management confirmed it made staff cuts, but it says it’s a business decision it had to make because of COVID-19.

For nearly two years, Ella Nonni has worked for Planned Parenthood. She most recently served as the senior medical assistant at the North Austin location.

She was distraught to learn that she and around 20 others in Austin were let go on Thursday.
“Our suspicion is that it was motivated by our organizing activity,” Nonni said.

Fauci Said Cruises Were OK on March 9 – Fauci Said Malls, Movies, Gyms Were OK on Feb. 29 — Now He Wants to Blame Trump for His Failures!

I don't especially like this guy because he's been wrong about most everything.  He first said the corona virus might kill millions of people in America.  It's a bit misleading to say he blames Trump for his bad numbers and advice.  He really did not say this.

But there does seem to have grown a wall of mistrust between President trump and Fauci of late.  The media is trying to rev it up because....well they're bored.

Fauci went on CNN on Easter Sunday and suggested that President Trump should have shut down the country in February!

It Is What It Is”: Anthony Fauci Deploys Scorsese Quote To Deflect ...
** Fauci later went on with Al Sharpton on MSNBC and and told Al Sharpton that he warned President Trump that “we were in real trouble” from the coronavirus.
Earlier today we reported on a list of several contradictory statements made by the good doctor.
Now there’s more…

Back on March 9 Dr. Fauci told Americans cruises were OK.

And back in February Fauci said malls, gyms and movie theaters were OK.
