****UPDATE-The post below was written before the announcement that the DNA results came back void of any incriminating evidence.

That development adds more intrigue to this case.

Will the prosecutor continue with the case?

Did the alleged victim really lie and continue that lie even knowing the truth would come out?

Instead of clarifying things, the DNA results adds more intrigue.

Duke University and an Alleged Gang Rape

On the evening of March 13, almost all of the members of the 47 total of North Carolina’s Duke University’s lacrosse team held a little party at a college-owned house on Buchanan street.

For a fee of $400 each, two strippers were hired to perform at this “party”. One of the strippers alleges she was gang-raped, sodomized and choked by three of those lacrosse players.

As details of this story unfold, the story not only continues to stink, the episode does not reflect well on the vaunted Duke University’s sports program.
Until all of the allegations are settled, the lacrosse team’s season has been cancelled.

Buchanan Street HouseDetails of this story keep leaking out. Including a rather strange story about a 911 call placed earlier in the evening when a woman complained that as she was passing by the Buchanan street house many of the home’s residents came out and shouted racial epithets at her. What’s not clear is if the 911 caller was the actual victim and/or the other stripper. If it was the victim, why then did she go into the home after that fearful call? If it was not the victim, then who was it and why didn’t the police respond?

ESPN.com has a particularly insightful piece on this crime. Including this tidbit:
On Tuesday, the Raleigh News & Observer broke the story that 15 of the players -- nearly a third of the team -- had been charged in recent months with misdemeanors following drunken and disruptive behavior. For a variety of reasons, most avoided criminal convictions.

Another intriguing question: Did the lacrosse team specifically order black strippers to perform? ESPN.com did some research and per the escort services they called, white strippers are normally sent unless a black stripper is specifically requested.

Which brings us to another interesting detail, that of the infamous email. From Sportsillustrated.com:
In the e-mail, addressed "To whom it may concern," the player says he has "decided to have some strippers over" to his dorm room, "however there will be no nudity."

"I plan on killing the bitches as soon as the walk in and proceding to cut their skin off," the author of the e-mail says, adding in vulgar terms that he would find the act sexually satisfying.

The e-mail was signed with what police said is the player's jersey number.

That bit about no nudity is strange in that the strippers were paid to remove their clothes. Further, the excerpt about “killing the bitches” seems to present a violent intent.

The prosecutor, as of this writing, is still waiting for the results of a DNA test. The victim alleges that she was attacked by three of the lacrosse players. As for the lacrosse players, none of them are talking. Strange. If only three of them did the deed why would they protect such a small part of the total?

It’s also been alleged that police recovered the victim’s wallet and cell phone from inside the bathroom where she claimed she was attacked. This almost two full days after the alleged attack. It’s hard to believe someone would leave these two items behind unless the exit was hurried, as in the escape from an attack.

Finally, there’s new information on the victim herself. The victim is the mother of two young children and is a student of a nearby college university.

From WRAP.com:
New information about the victim has been divulged, concerning charges arising from an incident that occurred several years ago. According to a 2002 police report, the woman, currently a 27-year-old student at North Carolina Central University, gave a taxi driver a lap dance at a Durham strip club. Subsequently, according to the report, she stole the man's car and led deputies on a high-speed chase that ended in Wake County.

Apparently, the deputy thought the chase was over when the woman turned down a dead-end road near Brier Creek, but instead she tried to run over him, according to the police report.

As this story roils on, it’s difficult to pick out the truth from the untruths. Evidently a few of those lacrosse players did something that scared that stripper enough to exit without her cell phone or wallet. Proving this thing through DNA is going to be tough as well. All of the players there the night of the alleged attack provided DNA samples. Save one black attendee who did not have to provide DNA as the stripper said all of her attackers were white.

If most of a 47-member lacrosse team attended this party, will it even be possible to isolate the DNA of the three alleged attackers? What if some of the players had consensual sex with the stripper? It’s not beyond the pale as it’s been known to happen that strippers will provide sex for an additional fee. If there was some consensual sex it would explain why the players are remaining mum for what appears to explain the strange group silence to protect only three of their members.

Does that strange email explain anything? Could there have been a plan for violence to come that evening?

Finally, the victim herself could be lying. Although various leaks suggest that this woman was a mess when she arrived at the hospital that evening. However, we must suggest softly that the woman IS a stripper and there is that strange past run-in with the law. None of which should matter if those players attacked her against her will but fairness doesn’t always work in these sorts of incidents.

No doubt this story will continue to unfold. Already I hear televised sound bites of pictures taken that will prove the victim has lied.

For now I seriously doubt a stripper would allege rape unless it really happened. Why? There’s nothing to be gained by such an accusation except the remote possibility of a civil lawsuit way down the road.

Something bad happened in that house on Buchanan street on the night of March 13, 2006. Indeed just that wild party was bad enough. Isn’t it time we rein in these self-important college and professional athletes?

Another Fine Female Educator

Okay folks. It is not a teacher’s job to have sex with his/her students and it’s time these female perverts serve some jail time. Sure it’s almost a whispered snigger as young male adolescents dream of having sex with their female teachers. That does not give teachers the right to grant that fantasy.

Now, in my own fine state of Delaware, yet another female teacher is accused of having sex with a young male student. Whispers are that there were approximately 26 sexual acts between teacher and student in a one week time period. This particular teacher, one Rachel Holt, also invited a few of the young victim’s friends to join in by watching the action.

This is just plain sick.

Deb Lafave, covered in a recent post on this blog, managed to walk away from her crime as her young victim was too embarrassed to testify. The brazen Miss Lafave then went on TV and declared she deserved sympathy as she was bi-polar. I must ask why the school system is hiring bi-polar teachers who might take sexual advantage of their students.

From CNN.com:
Delaware Teacher Accused of RapeRachel L. Holt, a 34-year-old science teacher at Claymont Elementary School, faces additional charges that she allowed a 12-year-old friend of the victim to watch them have sex at her home, and that she gave both boys beer, New Castle County acting Police Chief Scott McLaren said.

How Tragic

A five year child phones 911 asking for help for his mother. The child did the right thing and yet the 911 operator dismissed the call as a prank.

Help did not arrive for this woman until three hours later when the child again called 911 for help. At which time another 911 operator evidently took the call seriously. I heard the tape of that first call on Fox news. That 911 operator did rather gratuitously dismiss this call as I heard with my own ears.

Now I’m supposing that there are quite a few practical jokes played with the 911 emergency system. Still, not to state the obvious, they should all be taken seriously. Abusers of the system should be punished.

Ignoring such a call is NOT the solution.

From MSNBC.com:
DETROIT - A 5-year-old boy called 911 to report that his mother had collapsed in their apartment, but an operator told him he should not be playing on the phone, and she died before help arrived.

The family of Sherrill Turner, 46, does not know whether a swifter response could have saved her life, but relatives want to know why the operator apparently treated the call as if it were a prank.

Police said the 911 response was under investigation.

Not to Worry, the Department of Homeland Security Is On the Job

It would seem the only way we are going to catch these creeps is for law enforcement to continually pose as young victims. All of these perverts should be aware that the person on the other end of those instant messages might not be a young boy or girl.

It’s particularly disconcerting that a public employee with the Department of Homeland Security was one such pervert. Though government employees are certainly not exempt from perversion, this fine fellow proudly gave out his occupation and other pertinent details of his job.

We’d argue that such actions expose people in sensitive positions to blackmail by those who would harm the country.

In an ongoing public service, this fine fellows picture is placed carefully below for all the world to see the creep.

Whatever monsters reside in these peoples’ heads, perhaps the knowledge that they might get caught and might embarrass not only themselves but their loved ones, will hold those monsters in check.

From MSNBC.com:
Doyle-DHS Deputy SecretaryDoyle also sent photos of himself that were not sexually explicit, authorities said. One photo, which authorities released to the news media, shows Doyle in what appears to be homeland security headquarters. He is wearing a homeland security pin on his lapel and a lanyard that says “TSA.”

The Transportation Security Administration is part of the Homeland Security Department.

On several occasions, Doyle instructed the girl to perform a sexual act while thinking of him and described explicit activities he wanted to have with her, investigators said.
