The last time Phil failed to see his shadow was in 1999. *** Needs a Diet The average groundhog is 20 inches long and normally weighs from 12 to 15 pounds. Punxsutawney Phil weighs about 20 pounds and is 22 inches long. *** The Movie Groundhog Day was not filmed in Punxsutawney, but actually in Woodstock, Illinois. There is a small plaque that reads "Bill Murray stepped here" on the curb where Murray con- tinually steps into a puddle. |
American Idol 2007-San Antonio-2/6/07
As I understand it, the last city is San Antonio and now it's on to Hollywood.
First, some notes on the San Antonio contenders. Then some contestants to watch as the Hollywood eliminations unfold.
Akron Watson, 23, from Dallas, was part of a cousin pair. Akron could warble well but his cousin was awful.
Ashlyn Carr, 18, had a good story. In high school she allegedly got beat up for her good singing voice. And Ashlyn did sing well, kind of a "Dionne Warwick" karma, as one judge put it. Only problem is, Ashlyn made just the weirdest facial expressions while singing and the judges wouldn't pass her on.
Later, however, one or another judge had a change of heart and Ashlyn was called back in. THIS time she was allowed to move on to Hollywood. Let Ashlyn Carr be at the top of your "must track" list and see if the judges' change of heart helped create an American Idol. Frankly I don't think so.
San Antonio offered another great contender, a Jimmy McNeil, 23. Great MOTOWN voice, Jimmy sang a great rendition of "Cupid". Look for Jimmy to be a real force in this season's contest.
As for other contenders to watch, from Minneapolis, Sarah Krueger is 19 and has the best overall combination of looks, musical talent, and superstar quality I've seen in the various cities. Keep an eye on Sarah.
Also from Minneapolis, Perla Meneseg is not a native-born American but she calls herself the "American Dream". Perla is 25, calls Florida home, and should be watched closely over the next few weeks.
From Birmingham, we have Katie Bernard, 19, who has the weirdest speaking voice you'll ever hear. Tune in to the finals just to hear Katie talk. She sounds exactly like a duck! In fact, Katie was almost eliminated because of this but I doubt she'll go far with that speech impediment.
Also from Birmingham, we have Jamie Lee Ward, 17, who has a compelling life story. Seems her Daddy caught her stepmother cheating. He shot his wife then turned the gun on himself. Jamie lives with her grandmother and father, who is paralyzed. Jamie also sings well and one almost hopes she'll pull this contest off with such a sad story.
Seattle gives us Jorden Sparks, Anna Kearns, and Blake Lewis. All three are contenders and their stories in the text with the pics below.
