Web Site of Week, TV the Coming Week, and The Week Just Passed

 Posted by Hello

Our First Intention …
…in this web site of the week nomination was self-promoting. ForPlanethuff The Darkside turns out, upon a more leisurely visit, to be quite a compendium of current and past true crime.

Follows is a quote from this web site concerning my own true crime entry on
Dr. Barton Corbin, the Georgia dentist with so many suicidal lovers.
Pat Fish, the blogger who writes The Kaitlyn Mae Book at blogspot happened on to a play on words that I found rather striking, where Barton Corbin is concerned; The Dracula Dacula Dentist from Georgia.

The Dracula story is one of freudian sexuality emerging through the tightly controlled veneer of Victorian morality. It is a story of seduction and control. It's hard to not see further layers beneath Pat Fish's play on words, layers she may not have intended.

Visit the planet darkside and bookmark it if you want a well-written current true crime reference.

Danny Fired from The Apprentice
In this weekly TV missive, dated 1/24/05, I predicted Danny, the awkward dresser with little evident taste, would last until the final show.

So guess who was wrong?

Indeed Danny the weird one got the hatchet last week and frankly, from what I saw, he deserved it.

The drama provided by the last show was the dynamic between Michael, the prior week’s winning project manager and “exempt” from termination the following week, and Danny, the project manager on this week’s losing team.

The challenge at which Danny failed was to create a promo campaign for “Taster’s Choice” coffee.

The winning team nailed it with their concept of hyping the coffee in both its hot and cold forms.

Danny failed because he could not make decisions quickly enough. That and the total flipping of the bird by his team member, Michael. Yes the one exempt from termination who took advantage of his protected status and did nothing.

In a rather bizarre move, Danny had Michael come back with himself and one other team member. Danny knew Michael could not be terminated so it’s a guess as to why he risked not offering a more terminable victim along with the hapless female team member he also had join him in Trump’s board room.

Well I’m still not convinced Danny’s out of this. He’s entirely too colorful and he did get screwed by a team member who coasted along on protected status.

Danny will back. I know he can’t win but somehow, someway, Danny is going to wreak a revenge on Michael and frankly it’s an episode I don’t want to miss.

As another aside, may I mention that sweet Martha Stewart is thinking of producing her own form of The Apprentice. Which seems like a nice idea and surely Martha’s met a few fellow jailbirds with talent and domestic skills who could use a nice break and would grow under Martha’s kind tutelage.

Listen, The Donald, he’s a harmless bullshitter and he’s good at it.

Martha is a witch and any poor soul who could apprentice with her, well, The Wise I says it’s not possible.

But hey, Martha, I’ll be watching if you decide to give it a go.

Sounds Quirky Enough to be Worth a Look

Dr. Phil Primetime Special: Romance Rescue
ABC Tuesday, February 15 9:00 PM

Hey, I kinda like Dr. Phil. Sometimes I wonder what his claim to fame is but hey, being a bullshitter is kind of an elevated thing nowadays.

Per the promo blurb:
Special, Health, Self improvement

Dr. Phil educates the romantically challenged, including a couple contemplating marriage with an unusual prenuptial agreement and a woman who has plenty of first dates but rarely goes on a second.

The Very Definition of a Loser
The Wise I awaits the liberals with their brickbats who would consider me insensitive.

But I do hereby declare Juan Manuel Alvarez the Loser of this young year 2005 and declare he will hold this status to be final winner at year end.

For this man, 25 years old, did decide in his dismay to end it all. To do the deed, he parked his vehicle on a train track and waited for the oncoming vehicle to smash into him and send him to a happier heaven.

In fact ole Juan did kill a few other people that day but nary a scratch to his own handsome self although allegedly he’s been trying.

Because what does the coward do as the train bears down on him sitting awaiting death in his car upon the railroad tracks?

He gets the hell out of there which would ordinarily be an understandable thing.

Although the coward does not turn the key and drive his vehicle off the track as he could have done. Instead he leaps out of the car and runs his own worthless body to safety as two commuter trains collide. Eleven innocent people died in that crash but our buddy Alvarez is still alive and kicking, God love him.

Then this fine fellow shows up in court with little bandaids hither and yon on his person where he allegedly STILL continued to end his life, STILL unsuccessful.

The man is the very definition of Loser and his losing way he will continue to make futile attempts on his own life because hey, he’s got to get out of this murder charge in some form or fashion.

Sure, the kind Liberals are going to excoriate my tongue-clucking self, dear Lord Pat this is a tormented man have you no mercy?

Well, no. Not really.

I’ve always been a believer that suicide can, in some cases, be an entirely sensible decision and perhaps we all should wisely stand aside and let what happens occur as it should.

One side a person is NOT suicidal, from my experience, is one who constantly threatens it but somehow it never happens. Never even comes close.

So okay, ole Juan needed some loving attention. Only he killed eleven innocent people in his quest and caused God knows what economical damage on so many lives.

Juan Alvarez is a human example in why I believe a little assisted suicide might be a good thing.

The Slimy UN Finally Acknowledges the Holocaust
If you think the UN should be a world body duty bound to recognize the Holocaust and other acts of genocide against innocent people, well hey, that august and very corrupt finally did the did. Last week they had acknowledged the Holocaust and had a concentration camp survivor speak.

Only two Arab nations showed up.

What a complete waste of time and money, this thug-dominated UN.
The U.N. yesterday took the unprecedented step of inviting concentration-camp survivors, liberators and the Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel for the purpose of shouting, "Never again."

Perhaps they should have whispered, "Maybe later."

Seats in the General Assembly were half-full. Jordan and Afghanistan were the only Arab governments whose reps spoke.

Just Let the Dogs Sniff Everybody
And so the court says the cops can sic the dogs upon your person for no other reason than, well, just because….

The Wise I says why not just set up roadblocks anywhere desired and have the dogs sniff everybody. We can find drugs, explosives, maybe even cancer, all in one fell swoop!

Pshaw, Pat, yon reader says, this won’t happen.

I must ask, why the hell not? Just give every traffic cop a dog and boom, driving without your seatbelt might get you more time if the dog sniffs out a problem.

This is a bad ruling.
From SFGATE.com

The Supreme Court gave police broader search powers Monday during traffic stops, ruling that drug-sniffing dogs can be used to check out motorists even if officers have no reason to suspect they may be carrying narcotics.

In a 6-2 decision, the court sided with Illinois police who stopped Roy Caballes in 1998 along Interstate 80 for driving 6 miles over the speed limit. Although Caballes lawfully produced his driver's license, troopers brought over a drug dog after Caballes seemed nervous.

Caballes argued the Fourth Amendment protects motorists from searches such as dog sniffing, but Justice John Paul Stevens disagreed, reasoning that the privacy intrusion was minimal.

"The dog sniff was performed on the exterior of respondent's car while he was lawfully seized for a traffic violation.

31 of our Finest Lost Last Week
Semper Fi, guys. This loss left me weeping for the waste of heroes for the thugs of the middle east.

Less than a week after their death, Iraq successfully held its first free election.

Personnel from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing were transporting personnel from the 1st Marine Division to western Iraq at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time when the crash occurred near Ar Rutbah, Iraq. The Marines were going out to help election workers, officials said.

The 1st Marine Division is based out of Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

The SOTU
It was a wonderful speech, to the point, reiterating that from which the President has never wavered before.

The most memorable moment was the hug from a young Iraqi woman whose father was killed by Saddam Hussein by a couple who lost a son in that conflict. Below.

Hi Pat - Thank you very much for making my Dark Side site your "Site of the Week." I am very pleased and flattered that you would do so. I only started it Dec.29 of last year, and now I'm nearing 10,000 pageloads, which astonishes me. I very much appreciate your kind words and overall support by doing this. It means a great deal to me, as it's the first time another blogger has ever done such a thing. I hope it's something I can "pay forward."

Again, many thanks. - Steve
