BELOW...how vote is calculated from the link at ABC
HERE
For example if couple A, B and C receive 38, 26 and 14 points from the judges, we calculate what share these points represent of the total awarded by the judges on the night. In this case the judges gave 78 points in total, and each couples' share of 78 points breaks down as follows: 38= 48.72% of 78, 26= 33.33% of 78, 14= 17.95% of 78. Let's suppose that when the public votes are tallied, each couple has the following shares: A= 20%, B=40%, C=40%. To determine who's eliminated we combine these two shares for the total:
Couple A: 20+48.72%= 68.72%
Couple B: 40+33.33%= 73.33%
Couple C: 40+17.95%= 57.95%
In this case, the bottom two couples would be A and C, and C would be eliminated.
====================
Perhaps I show my age, but I recall Elvis Presley and his famous hips, hips that almost had him banned from TV sets across the fruited plains not that today we don’t have talent-less females showing their boobs during a Superbowl broadcast and calling it a fashion mishap.
Priscilla Presley was then Elvis’ very young wife, his only wife and mother of his only child. During that era the young female sported raccoon style eye makeup and very big hair.
It’s now some forty years later and this wife, divorced from her then famous hip-wriggling husband and now his widow in a fashion, is a contender on a current reality show of the dance and hey, I think she danced very well.
But Priscilla Presley had one major flaw in this series that had her sent packing when a few others should have gone in her stead had talent been the only issue.
Well two flaws actually if one takes into account that terrible lip surgery that left the woman looking like a child born with a cleft lip later repaired by a third world surgeon.
For Priscilla Presley came across on the 2008 season of “Dancing With the Stars” as one of the most morose and dislikeable females on the planet.
The woman rarely smiled. She never showed the bouncing enthusiasm of, say, Marissa Winokur who danced two grades below Priscilla. She tended to be quiet if not almost rude after a performance, which had to leave the American TV audience little reason to bother dialing her number.
4/14/08 was Samba/Rumba night and Priscilla gave a somewhat satisfactory performance although she did miss a choreographed turn. I didn’t notice that flub as I watched it live but when it was pointed out by the judges, and Priscilla herself frankly which was dumb, I saw it plainly on the DVR replay.
Still Presley’s Rumba was a difficult routine one could argue with a tricky series of moves that required great concentration and balance inserted in the middle of the performance.
Judge Len said he was disappointed with her performance and, indeed, Priscilla and her partner received a score of 21, the lowest score of that night but overall Presley has scored higher than a couple of her co-contenders.
In short I think Priscilla Presley got voted off of Dancing With the Stars 2008 as much for her lackluster personality as for her dancing skills or lack thereof.
It was Mario who began the dance on the performance episode which sent Priscilla Presley packing. Mario did a happening Samba and, in fact, Mario got his highest judge score to date and left him tied for second place on this night, a total of 27.
Marissa Winokur too danced a Samba and I like to refer to Marissa as this year’s Marie Osmond.
She doesn’t blind the TV viewer with her dance fluidity and easy movement on the dance floor. Marissa does come across as eager and engaging with her toothy smile and bouncy personality.
Although I’d argue that Marissa did dance a very nice Samba. Marissa’s feet and short, stumpy legs do not lend themselves well to a smooth glide across the dance floor and they never will. But Marissa did move those shoulders and wiggle those boobs and coupled with her infectious smile and obvious joy in the performance, Marissa keeps hanging in there week after week.
Marissa and her partner scored 24 points.
Christian de la Fuente’s greater claim to fame in this series would be his smoldering Latin handsomeness as opposed to any great dance talent.
Still it’s obvious that Christian wants very much to perform well and on this performance night he danced a Rumba that my own very uneducated dance eye would label as…okay.
In fact Judge Len called the routine “competent” and “not gruesome”.
While I may be no expert on the dance, I got eyeballs and there’s something obvious about someone with a natural limber tendency of movement and Christian does not have it. He does have, however, a handsome bod and hey, he’s easy on the female eyeball.
Christian was one of the bottom two on this performance night, having received a score of 23.
Marlee Matlin, the deaf dancer who continually impresses me all to hell, didn’t do so well on this performance night but I don’t think she’s going to get voted off any time soon.
Marlee is dedicated to the effort, she’s attractive and she looks good on that floor. I can’t help but think that there are many like me out here in TV la-la land who try to imagine dancing without benefit of sound and have not near enough imagination to grasp the notion.
Which is not to say that Marlee gets any breaks for her handicap for the judges awarded Marlee 22 points for her Samba. Allegedly she made a few mistakes in her routine but this TV viewer didn’t notice a thing.
Kristi Yamaguchi, former Olympic gold medal skater and dancer extraordinaire, wowed everyone again with a sexy Rumba that had the judges, for the first time, agreeing that Kristi had overcome her only dance flaw, which was failure to emote significantly during the dance.
Kristi and her partner received 29 points for their performance.
The closes challenger to Kristi so far this season 2008 of Dancing With the Stars is Jason Taylor, a handsome and personable football star and football players often dance quite well on this series.
Jason and Edita danced a Rumba and by my eye it looked like Edita did most of the work while Jason held her arm and smiled for the camera.
Which is not to say that Jason can’t move across that dance floor with grace because he does and he seems to possess that natural grace and fluidity that can lead to a win this season.
Jason and his partner received a very fair 27 points for their performance.
Finally Shannon Elizabeth, she of two first names, danced a Samba.
I think Shannon, with more practice, has what it takes to win this thing although I’m not at all sure there’s enough time left for her to overtake Kristi, who’s been practicing fluid movement for many years albeit while on ice skates.
The judges complained that Shannon did have enough hip action during her dance performance and even the kind Carrie Ann said Shannon’s dance moves seem awkward.
Afterward with Samantha Harris, Shannon said she tends to have small hips, hardly bigger than her waist.
Heh.
Well tell me what that’s like cause I sure don’t know.
Shannon and her partner received a total of 23 points for their performance.
Below a short remix of some notable performances on the night of 4/14/08 to include Priscilla’s missing that dance turn, Shannon and her lack of hips and Marissa shaking those shoulders. Plus a short segment of those young kids, TEN YEARS OLD, who will someday be owning this ABC dance series.
