True Crime-BTK-GOODBYE! LaToyia's Body Found, the Massacre of the Ducks; A TV Review of the NWF; Comments.

Let’s Put BTK Behind Us For Good

I’ve had quite enough of Dennis Rader.

The man who murdered 10 people for his own sexual pleasure, taunted the Kansas police for many years and now enjoys his day in the sun as he re-creates his crimes in his “confession”.

There’s been too many adjectives that attempt to describe this man. “Despicable” is close.

As it turned out, BTK is an unimportant little man who chased dogs, lived in a tiny house and murdered people.

Rader will never be subject to the death penalty as Kansas, in its wisdom, re-instituted the death penalty AFTER Rader had killed his tenth victim.

Why was it ever eliminated to begin with?

For Dennis Rader would be having his date with a needle had the good people of Kansas determined earlier that only death is appropriate for this man and his ilk.

Rader was sentenced to the maximum allowed, a minimum of 175 years without chance of a parole.

The sentence hearing of Rader was one of the most bizarre spectacles human beings should have to witness.

The man launched into a long list of people he wanted to “thank”. He gave the Wichita police a pat on the back, going on about their dedication and perseverance. The expression of thanks was almost a slap in the face by me. The Wichita police missed catching this guy for over 25 years. Hardly impressive police work and add to it a congratulations by the serial killer finally caught by his own hand, well I saw it as a dig by Rader.

Rader also told the judge that he cooperated with the police but then said he ‘blew so much smoke’ in recounting his crimes that ‘nobody knows fact from fiction’.

Well Mr. Pathetic man, you had your fun and attention with your heartbreaking confession in front of families of the slain victims. Time for you to be locked in a jail and be tossed aside in the ash heap of history.

Another Ray Gricar Sighting

The disappearance of this Pennsylvania prosecutor might not be resonating across the fruited plains. For by now it is very evident that Gricar is very much alive.

He was sighted once dining with an older woman near Canada. Now it’s reported he was spotted in Texas, eating lunch!

In fact, a woman managed to get a picture of him as he ate. When interviewed on Greta, Gricar’s family waffled but finally admitted they couldn’t deny the man in the picture was Ray Gricar.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Gricar took a day off work to go for a long drive, left his car at a nearby antique mall, and it seemed he just poof, disappeared. His cell phone was in his car but his laptop computer was missing. Recently the laptop computer was found in a nearby pond. But its hard drive was missing.

Since evidence continues to mount that this man is gallivanting all across the United States, I must wonder what on earth would possess a man who has been called caring and loving by those closest to him to do such a dirty trick.

Lack of courage? An offer he couldn’t refuse?

Someday the full story of Ray Gricar will be known.

For now, by me, he’s a selfish individual who chose the cheap and cheesy way out.

LaToyia Figueroa’s Remains Found
She was pregnant and the last person to see her alive was her “baby’s Daddy”.

Her father ranted and raved across the cable talk show spectrum that Natalee Holloway, white and pretty, received way more coverage than his daughter.

It was just so evident that LaToyia was a victim of the hand of her baby’s father. Further, if she wanted nothing more to do with that man, why did she meet him that day? The man, Stephen Poaches , was a ‘former’ boyfriend and was allegedly already shacked up with another woman, also pregnant, met with LaToyia for a prenatal checkup. Poaches was the last person to see her alive.

This story had murder by former lover written all over it.

Which all turned out to be true. For didn’t Poaches lead the police directly to LaToyia’s body when he decided he was going to move it?

The difference between LaToyia and Natalee is not the color of their skin or hair. Had LaToyia went missing during a vacation in Aruba while the most likely suspect languished in jail, refusing to talk much less lead Aruban cops directly to Natalee’s body, then LaToyia would be receiving the same coverage as Natalee.

Assuming also that LaToyia had a determined mother as Natalee does.

But three cheers for LaToyia’s Dad, who did get out there and beat the bushes.

He got plenty of attention.

Sometimes it’s the nature of the crime, the circumstances, the actions of the players, that determine which true crime gains the attention of the media.

The media has to sell advertising time to advertisers who want lots of viewers to see their product. The media tends to chase after more sensational crimes.

It’s the nature of the beast and the color of a victim’s skin does not make that determination.

First Blog entry on LaToyia.

The Massacre of the Ducks
Seems a young man driving a red Acura got it into his head that some ducks needed to die. So he drive his car through the parking lot, driving over and killing many ducks and ducklings.

His brave and noble actions were all captured on videotape.

This fellow is going to get caught, take it to the bank.

Killing ducks might not be a true crime and the penalty for same might be insignificant.

But he should be forever shamed for such inhumane and dastardly deeds.

It can’t happen too soon.

Stay tuned because when they find this guy we’ll feature his picture and name prominently that he may be forever admired for his brave act.

From the AP:
Police have no leads in the duck massacre at a Campbell car wash, but reward donations have topped $4,200, a manager said Saturday.

"People getting their car washed are saying, 'Add $5 or $20 for the ducks,'" said Bryan Buell, assistant manager at Delta Queen Classic Car Wash. "It's been a very heartening experience."

A video surveillance camera captured the carnage about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 5, when a young man in a red Acura drove repeatedly through the parking lot running over the ducks -- including several ducklings -- that live there.

Ten ducks were killed.

Car wash employees offered a reward Friday. So far, they've received calls from CNN, the "Today" show and outraged duck lovers throughout Northern California.

"Backyard Habitat" on Animal Planet
It is with great excitement that I write this review.

Excitement not only caused by the new Animal Planet show being reviewed, but also excitement at the subject being one very near and very dear to mine heart.

I watched the premiere of "Backyard Habitat" on Animal Planet this past Monday, 8/15/05, at 11 am. Since then the show has been repeated quite a few times in various time slots. It is to be a regular series on the Animal Planet. The show is scheduled to be shown at 11:00 am every Monday. Check local listings as the show is repeated often throughout the week.

For five years I have been a Backyard Wildlife Habitat Steward, certified by the National Wildlife Federation. The NWF produces "Backyard Habitat" on Animal Planet.

The NWF's Backyard Wildlife Habitat program is the greatest idea of our time. I was so enamored at the notion that I commuted to Vienna, Virginia three Saturdays in a row and spent eight hours a day learning about flora, fauna and the wildlife we DON'T have to displace by our human settlement.

Indeed, therein lies the beauty of NWF's Backyard Wildlife Habitat program. For all of nature is predicated on a "win-win" scenario. The flowers offer nectar to the bees that they will carry their pollen across the way for future flowers. It's how we live our own human lives I'd assert and with NWF's Backyard Wildlife Habitat program, everyone wins.

The concept is that with a little thought and even less effort, we can create our own eco-systems to invite the critters to live WITH us.

Birds, butterflies, bees, chipmunks will gladly join and delight our human selves if only a few simple requirements are met.

The four requirements to get certified as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation are: food, water, cover and nesting places.

Every eco-system from a small apartment patio to grand ranches can readily provide these things with a little effort.

The benefits to humans are geometric. For a garden being indulged in by butterflies and happy bees has an animated dimension of beauty beyond a static stand of vegetation. The creatures living in our eco-systems provide a sense of wonder, nature and continuity for children fortunate enough to be a part of such a surround.

Best of all, there's no reason our human selves can't settle right in the environment comfortably, adapting the landscape handsomely to our human sensibilities while inviting God's creatures to stay right here.

As a Backyard Wildlife Habitat Steward I am trained to aid people in creating their own Backyard Habitats. Which can lead to the award of an NWF certificate verifying a backyard as an NWF certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat.

Background aside, Animal Planet's Backyard Habitat program takes the dry words and one dimensional pictures of the many brochures and documentation on the subject and brings it to life.

The show has a sort of "trading spaces" feel to it in that the family having their yard prepared for certification will have a final "reveal" of their gardens and yards, now changed by the addition of elements that will invite the wildlife to stay.

In the first episode, a farm family wanted to invite purple martens to their eco-system. Purple martens are pretty little blue-black birds that have been greatly effected by human development. They are communal birds and like to nest in old tree holes used by owls. Only as the forest is cut for human development such ideal nesting spots are simply no longer there.

Ah! But there are plenty of fine replacements and the addition of same will add greatly to a human's backyard experience. In the Animal Planet episode the NWF people used gourds to create "gourd colonies" for the purple marten. The show provided a demonstration on how to dry and create the gourds until suitable for use by the martens.

As part of the demonstration, viewers were treated to a trip to a purple marten enthusiast and a tour of an eco-system filled with gourd colonies and punctuated by the chitter of happy martens.

The eco-system in the first show had a pond. The NWF people created a log home for a turtle and launched the fellow happily into his new home.

A garden was created from native plants, the most important part of a backyard wildlife habitat. For the critters and creatures of our surround have evolved to their current state over millions of years. And they've evolved along with those plants indigenous and happy with the climate, soil and environment of an area. Native plants grow better in our gardens too!

The home owners returned and were, as expected, surprised at how handsome their new eco- system was and were excited at the prospect of a new purple marten colony.

Finally, beyond encouraging yon reader to tune in to this new show on Animal Planet, I must end with an anecdote that to me, illustrates why it matters.

Slowly but surely I am creating a Backyard Wildlife Habitat here in my new Delaware home. I've moved plants hither and yon, installed a fountain, carved out gardens and planted native plants. The previous owner had a handsome but stiff, landscaped affair that held no allure at all to God's creatures.

I built it and they came. Banks of bird feeders bring in all sorts of happy bird fellows and the bird baths provide splash and refreshment.

Tonight I was visited by not one, but TWO, absolutely gorgeous hummingbird moths.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This is a visitor I have never had come to any eco-system of my residence before.

At first I thought they were some sort of giant bees. Indeed, they have the striping of a honey bee.

The moth flew around the porch then joined its mate over by the petunias now dripping out of the whiskey barrel planter. Together they spent about ten minutes, sipping the nectar from the petunias, waving the adjacent flowers with the invisible flutter of their wings.

If God gave grades for backyard habitat performance it would be the critters and creatures who decide the score. For there is no greater testimony that it's coming together fine than a visit by those meant to be seduced.

Those two hummingbird moths that so enthralled me gave me a solid A as they busily visited my floral offerings and paid me no busy moth mind.

It is these shining moments that come boldly when humans extend but a simple invite to those only too happy to accept.

On the Very Honest Air America

Air America Post Here
It does sound like Air America as an entity was only marginally involved in this crime. What should be looked on as suspect is the leftist mentality which led Cohen to think that propaganda was a better use for the money than helping kids. It shows how far astray the left has gone in its priorities.

Comments: "Just like there is no market for liberal books."

Maybe Maurice doesn't know what he's talking about since I easily found these best sellers names: Al Franken, Michael Moore, Joe Conason, Barbara Ehrenreich, Molly Ivins, Jane Fonda...

Finally, a comment from a Liberal. Written, as always, with that flair for which the Liberals are so well known.
Comments: Hey, "Jesus," you frickin' dolt: blogs aren't "states," okay? They represent people. Until you maroons get the point that it isn't some concerted, organized machine in the thrall of "the Man," or "Rove," or your eighth grade babysitter that you still got issues with, you will always sound like a clown.

I'm born in the Bronx, DNA Democrat, probably before your dumbass was born. STFU.

The Bethany Blues Rib Joint
I mentioned in this review that a bus boy could not speak English. Some responses below.

Bethany Blog Post Here
Patfish, in many restaurants, busboys are not expected to interact with the customers - they are there to set up and clear, and refill water glasses, so it's not a bad job for a kid who might have just gotten here. Perhaps you should have spoken to your server about your leftovers first. Instead of being critical, perhaps you might think to applaud the fact that this young man is working hard and might well be on his way to achieving the American dream. The donut place near my office is run by immigrants. Much of the help spoke little English at first, and they got a few orders messed up, but their English gets better every day and they work their asses off, which is more than I can say for some of the native English speakers I know.

==========
Comments: Why should others be made to learn English when ignorant American refuse to try and communicate with others or even bother to learn another language? There's more than American english in the world, don't you know.

Sounds a bit hypocritical and, if anything, probably doesn't encourage immigrants to want to learn English.

===========
Comments: Americans demand others learn English because they can. It's as simple as that.

People who like having power and enjoy pushing other people around will not be persuaded to change their behavior by any rational argument.

English-language chauvinism will eventually fade out as American economic power continues to decline, but it will probably take a few more generations to disappear completely.

===========
probably doesn't encourage immigrants to want to learn English.

True, but hell, the business owners should crank the english up on waiters who will be serving people who predominantly speak English.

It cannot be denied that Americans absolutely SUCK at learnng languages, but at the same time, some do not have the aptitude and once you're an adult it's about 14,000 percent (exactly that amount :-) ) harder to learn a language. For most.

For instance here in AZ - as you know - Spanish is rapidly becoming co-equal in language but when they're taking to me - tall white guy - as a store employee - I expect to be spoken to in English. And I am. And I admire them mightily for being bi-lingual, which I am not unless you count sadly neglected Japanese and French. They converse with the person in front of me in Spanish they turn to me and switch to English. I find that admirable and amazing. And I'd be pissed if they tried to speak Spanish to me.

=========
MY Response to the Comments Above:
As for those who thought I was a bit hard on the Bus boy, perhaps I was.

He was a nice kid and I know with all my heart he wanted to please.

But folks, I simply would never have a job in China, Russia, you name it, and expect that the people there should learn English for my sake.

Sure, I'd have to go to night school and learn the language but I've been to plenty of establishments with owners who still could not communicate effectively after many years in the business. They simply are not trying as I see it and the solution is not to have everyone in America learn their language.

It's just not going to happen.

And on a Lighter Note-A Comment on “The Average Joe”:

Average Joe Review HERE

I think the whole thing is funny and sad. We see beautiful girls with not so handsome rock stars. Also beauty still is in the eyes of the beholder. I myself dont consider Anna the expert on beauty. I also thought the guys with muscles were not all that cute. I myself would have chosen Josh all the way. I thought he was cute and quite a gentleman. He seem more like the family man. He would have treated anna well and their children if they would have any. I would never have given up josh for Rocky. Beauty isnt muscle, Beauty is the soul. Josh had soul........
