"Dancing With the Stars" 2007 Down to a Talented Five

Montage from Dance Stars show 4.30.07 Cyrus, Ratzenberger and Ian

So there's five left and despite an oddball order of elimination that left awkward older males continuing to jump around the dance floor whilst pretty women were sent packing seemingly just because of their beauty, we now have a decent field of five finalists for this 2007 "Dancing With the Stars" contest.

Of course Billy Ray Cyrus is more a cut-up than a dancer but soon enough he'll be gone.

The show on the night of 4/30/07 had the final six performing two dances, one classified as a "ballroom" dance and another as a "Latin" dance.

The evening began with Laila who would perform a Samba and a Quickstep. Laila danced a Quickstep to the tune of "Part Time Lover".

The Quickstep is an enjoyable dance to watch in that a)it is a dance I know and understand in that it's sort of a classy jitterbug; and b)the dancers always seem more lively and animated as the dance around the floor.

So too did Laila, the only female left in the top five, dance with animation and fervor. I greatly admired her complicated footwork. The judges said Laila "Turned the gas up" but she needs to work on her posture.

Later Laila danced a Samba and if possible, she was even better at this dance than the earlier Quickstep. The judges loved Laila.

Laila and her partner received a total of 29 points for the Quickstep and a perfect score of 30 for the Samba.

John Ratzenberger danced a Foxtrot and a Rumba on this night. The Foxtrot was danced to the tune of "That's Life", a great tune for the dance. John looked very nice in a tuxedo but all I could think is that the man looks like my granddaughter playing hopscotch. The judges declared this John's "best dance thus far". Perhaps.

Later John danced the Rumba to a song titled "Pressure". He was still awful. His partner did a tricky move by bending over to the floor and lifting one leg perfectly perpendicular into the air. It didn't help.

John and his partner received 23 points out of a possible 30 for the Foxtrot and 22 points for the Rumba.

John was sent home during the following night's elimination show. It was well past time for him to go. I will say this, John was an enjoyable entertainer, personable, a good sport and eminently likable.

If Laila has any chance of winning this thing she has to beat out the next dancer of the evening: Apolo Ohno. Apolo danced the Foxtrot and Rumba.

The Foxtrot was danced to the tune of "Stepping Out With My Baby". During the pre-dance vignette Apolo mentioned that he received an award reserved for "Asian-Americans". Gosh, I didn't know Apolo was Asian. Hey, I don't even know what Asian means. There's all sorts of Asians.

Now admittedly his name is unusual but I wondered if he didn't change it on purpose or some such. It turns out, if my glimpse at Apolo's father was on target, that Apolo is at least half-Japanese.

At any rate, Apolo got his entire body wonderfully into that Foxtrot, moving his shoulders and hands as fluidly as his feet. The judges were rough on Apolo, declaring that he needs to be GREAT, not just "good".

Later Apolo did the Rumba to a song that sounded Latin but I didn't recognize. Again Apolo moved those shoulders and arms, he was sexy and at one point he actually danced on one leg!

Curmudgeon judge Len didn't like Apolo's performance, once again declaring it "not great".

Apolo and his partner received 26 points out of a possible 30 for the Foxtrot and 28 points for the Rumba.

Next Ian Ziering, who was wished luck by former "90210" co-star Tori Spelling, danced the Tango. What was really weird, supposedly Billy Ray Cyrus helped Ian practice to teach him how to "have fun". Frankly I don't think you can "teach" someone to have fun but if so, I guess Billy Ray would be the one to do it. Ian is a bit of a serious fellow but he can dance. Billy Ray is a fun-loving guy but he dances like a big lunk.

Ian danced the Tango to the tune "I Need a Hero". Ian did display smiles and joy as he danced; the judges declared he "had drama". Ian and his partner got a standing ovation for their Tango.

Later Ian danced the Mambo wearing a sexy red shirt that artfully displayed his fine masculine muscles. The judges said the performance was "authentic" but Ian was warned about his posture.

Ian and his partner received 27 points out of a possible 30 for the Tango and the same point total for the Mambo.

Next up funny man Billy Ray performed a Waltz to the beautiful tune of "Play Me".

Come on, it was obvious to even the most obtuse that Billy Ray's partner was doing all the work. Billy Ray was clunky although his outfit was cute.

The judges warned Billy Ray that he "has to work at it" and not hope his partner will carry him. Later, Billy Ran performed a Samba and he danced a bit better. He began the dance jumping around as if a boxer getting ready to fight. His dancing displayed better and more complicated footwork than his earlier dance. The judges said he "pulled it out" of the dumpster with this performance.

Billy Ray and his partner received 17 points out of a possible 30 for the Waltz and 21 points for the Samba.

The final dancer this night was Joey Fatone. Joey began with a Foxtrot. Joey gave a great jump at the beginning of the performance and he moved his shoulders and arms in tune with his legs. Joey got a standing ovation for his Foxtrot.

Len rather snidely said the performance had "too much razzle-dazzle" for him but the other judges shouted him down.

Later Fatone danced a Jive and it was a fantastically entertaining dance to watch. The judges said Fatone showed the world what he could do.

Fatone and his partner received 29 points out of a possible 30 for the Foxtrot and they received a perfect score of 30 for the Jive.

DANCE WITH STARS LIST 2007 as of 5/3/07
===========
Ian Ziering
Billy Ray Cyrus
Joey Fatone
Laila Ali
Apolo Anton Ohno

There's only one female in the final top five to win this thing in 2007. Laila is a good dancer but I don't think she can beat Apolo.

Laila, can however, come in second, which is part of my prediction below.

1st place-Apolo Ohno
2nd place-Laila Ali
3rd place-Joey Fatone
4th place-Ian Ziering
5th place-Billy Ray Cyrus

"The Bachelor" 2007-It's Down to Four and Andy Visits the Folks

Actually Andy Baldwin will visit the folks of the remaining four contenders to be his wife NEXT week but the final four were determined on the night of 4/30/07.

Two smitten ladies were treated to a cherished "one-on-one" date with Andy and all the contenders spent some time on a yacht and....a playground?

Montage 4.30.07 Bachelor 07-final six contenders for Andy Baldwin

The show began with all six ladies and Andy playing about on a luxury yacht. At some point Bevon ended up in a kyak with Andy and at some point, go to hell, Bevon ended up crying.

During my last review of this show I suggested that Bevon seems to be getting a lot of Andy's attention and I speculate that Andy might choose her to be his bride. While Andy still might choose her to become Mrs. Baldwin, my opinion of this constantly whining bitch has changed immensely.

Every damn time we see Bevon she's whining and crying about something. I must warn Andy right now...DUMP BEVON !

Unless, of course darling Andy, beloved of all the ladies on "The Bachelor" 2007, you want to spend the rest of your living days immersed in gloom and doom, devoid of smiles that a coin might drop or rain may fall. We also found out that Bevon had been married before as a young woman and she cried, of course, that she wouldn't have a chance to tell Andy this due to lack of personal time with Andy.

So while I'm talking about possible spouses, let's look at Andy. Okay, he's good-looking, he's in good shape, he's a doctor and he's nice.

I think he's boring as hell and I think I'd be spitting after one date with him.

Understand that this is a TV series and much of the "action" is likely orchestrated behind the scenes. Andy probably does have some sort of personality but I still wonder why he has to go on TV to get himself a wife.

All that being said, we move on to the strange playground scene. First, the playground Andy and his would-be wives fixed up was located in...Hollywood? Well damn now there's a very poor and under-privelaged area of the country.

Whatever the case, the ladies and Andy painted and planted and soon a boring concrete jungle was transformed into a pretty play area for a bunch of underprivelaged Hollywood kindergardeners to enjoy. Andy did constantly mention his need to know how those who would be his wives handle children. Well that makes sense. I must suppose that Andy wants kids as he professes to love them and bearing a man's children is often the job of a wife.

Montage from 4.30.07 Bachelor 07, Tessa with necklace, Andy and Stephanie W on date, playground renovation scene

Beyond the playground, Andy enjoyed a private date with Tessa. Andy does seem to like Tessa and of all the contenders, she seems the most genuine.

Andy, quick, pick Tessa...forget Bevon. I can't bear one more tear from that woman.

Stephanie W and Tina of the buckteeth were sent home that evening of 4/30/07. Next week viewers are promised a show chock full of Andy's visits to the four finalists' parents. On a later show, when the field is narrowed down to three, viewers are promised a visit to Andy's home in Hawaii.

Say what? Andy lives in Hawaii? Well now forget personality, fatherhood and income. THE MAN LIVES IN HAWAII! Hey, I'LL MARRY HIM.

Finally, in another tease vignette of a future show, Andy declares he has found the woman he wants to marry so hey, will it be Tessa? Or will we all cry yet again with Bevon?

Stay tuned to this Blog.

Apolo is certainly a good dancer, but he is also a professional athlete (like Laila) so I would expect them to excel in a physical competition. Also, Joey Fatone is a professional dancer so he has an advantage as well. My personal favorite dance team is Ian and Cheryl. They have so much personality and give each dance 100% effort. Ian is not a professional dancer or athlete, but yet he has all the talent of the rest of them -- last week he received six straight "9s" from the judges. I hope he surprises everyone by giving his best performances in the next two weeks and capturing the trophy. If you like Ian and Cheryl, please do your part to vote for them on Monday -- vote 4 times for each phone number and 4 times online.
