Wrapping Up 2012's Design Star, Food Network Star, Bachelorette, Duets and Love In the Wild. Insights into the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Pic of the Day

Goodness so many competitive reality shows came to a conclusion all at once I could hardly keep up. Rather than leave everything up in the air with no conclusions, I decided to post a conclusion post for mid-summer 2012 competitive reality shows as diverse as HGTV's "Design Star", NBC's "Love in the Wild", ABC's "The Bachelorette", Food Network's "Next Food Network Star", and ABC's newest musical competitive reality show-"Duets".

Duets

Duets was an intriguing new offering in the musical competitive reality show genre. Four musical stars found four amateur protégés and over the course of the contest, the four protégés performed duets with the various performers.

At some point the American public had a chance to vote and their pick, when the smoke cleared, was a very find young man named J Rome, a really dumb name as I see it.

Which is not to say that J Rome was void of talent. I chose him as the winner right from the start and he won handily.

Below, posts on this Blog about the Duets series as it was ongoing.

Bachelorette Emily

ABC's Bachelorette series had former Bachelor Brad Womack's choice, Emily, as the Bachelorette.

There were many handsome men after Emily's hand. Eventually Emily settled on Jef, with only one F, incredible hair, and a Mormon from a very devout family.

I watched the "After the Final Rose" show as Emily and Jef appeared on TV for the first time as a recognized couple.

I seriously have my doubts.

First, I don't think Emily is looking to settle down with much of anybody. But even if so, a youngish, naïve, religious fellow seems like the last guy she'd choose.

Emily is quite beautiful, let's make no mistake. She's also used to a good life. It's not clear what sort of working career Jef had.

When they greeted each other at the Final Rose show, they didn't look any more comfortable with each other as they should have what with the show then long over. They both claimed to be planning for Jef to move into SEPARATE living arrangements in Emily's current state.

Everything about that coupling is just weird.

Love in the Wild
NBC's Love in the Wild is a fairly new competitive romance reality show. It combines Survivor with Big Brother and a touch of Bachelor Pad.

Ken and Yanina were the two young lovers who fought spiders and snakes, jumped off of bridges and leaped into gorges, all part of the various challenges that finally ended with these two paired with each other and, despite all odds, still LIKING each other.

They seem like a compatible pair. We'll be keeping ear close to ground to see where this romance goes.

Next Food Network Star
Food Network's "Next Food Network Star" was a great series.

Justin, he of the magnificent hair, was named the next Food Network Star.

He was my choice, both for his cooking skills, his personality, and his on-screen presence.

We will be posting a review of Justin's Food Network show, just as soon as we watch it.

Design Star
HGTV's "Design Star" is one of my favorite competitive reality shows. The 2012 series of this show was no disappointment.

Contender Danielle won the coveted title and it would so happen that I watched Danielle's new show, titled "Shopping the Room".

It's a home decorating show. I'm not at all sure I get the concept of "shopping" a room, or how it's anything new on the home decorating scene.

Mostly Danielle, like every interior designer before her, meets with the individual or couple whose home she is re-designing. She then goes on a shopping trip and finds items to base the room/home's decoration on.

It doesn't really work that way. Danielle has to work with carpenters and other contractors to tear out walls, add furniture/appliances….like most home interior designs go.

Danielle then decorates the reconfigured interior, supposedly all based around an item that she found while out shopping.

It's as good a method as any, but it's nothing new or even all that original.

Danielle has a pleasant and calm personality and carries off her tasks well. We'll be keeping an eye on her to see how well her show moves along on HGTV.

Monday

Bachelorette Emily-Will It Be Jef, Arie or .....Nobody?

Pic of Day

So I watched "The Men Tell All" recently and not much new there.

Kalon was the butt of sarcasm and anger for calling Emily's daughter "baggage".

I don't think I've ever seen one kind of nothing-burger action cause so much drama.

First, we know that Emily loves Ricki. Come on, all mothers love their children. But to watch Emily in action on the episode when she kicked Kalon out for saying such a thing you'd think she was the only mother in the world who loved her child.

Which is not to say, of course, that it was a nice thing to say on Kalon's part but let's face it, a woman with a child has "baggage" though that's probably not a nice way to refer to an innocent child.

Point being, Kalon was making a very real point when he was discussing this with a bunch of co-contenders for Bachelorette Emily's hand.

And some tattletale had to go tell Emily although this was probably scripted just to add the drama.

On The Men Tall All episode, but of course, we needed more drama. So the matter of Kalon's reference to Ricki as baggage was again brought up. Kalon, to his credit as I saw it, did apologize for offending Emily with his term.

Emily called him a bullshitter, right on TV.

I don't think Kalon came off as a bullshitter with his expression of regret for using a term so many found offensive. I really do think he regretted the term "baggage" which is not a very nice way to put it.

However I do think Kalon meant that Ricki was an "issue" any suitor of Emily would have to deal with but don't dare say it as I suppose is the thought.

The final rose ceremony is supposed to take place this coming Sunday night, ABC, at 8pm.

On The Bachelorette web site, 42% of those taking the poll vote for Jef as the final guy. An astonishing 23% of those polled believe neither Jef nor Arie will get the nod from Emily.

Arie

Jef

Tell you what I think, now that you asked. I think that The Bachelorette will be extended for at least one more episode.

For sure there's been all kinds of hints that the ending of Bachelorette Emily's quest for love will not end per normal, ie with Emily happily choosing her choice to go live forever after in joy and harmony.

Emily keeps saying she can't make up her mind, at least on sound and sight bytes provided by the show. Indeed she said she felt great emotion for all three of the remaining guys before she sent Sean home.

I think the extension will help the show Bachelor Pad. That show sure was pushed during The Men Tell All episode. Bachelor Pad has to compete with Big Brother and now Love in the Wild. If The Bachelor(ette) series wants to capitalize on its fame, what better way than to run the final episode of Emily's saga concurrent with The Bachelor Pad first episodes?

Just a hunch on my part. Because I don't believe this series will allow another bachelor(ette) walk off without choosing anybody, as did the infamous Brad Womack. More so because it was Brad Womack who returned and chose Emily during last year's season ending in yet another disaster by Brad Womack.

I also do not believe that this season's series will end with Emily sobbing that she can't make up her mind and boom, that will be the end.

There are too many fans out in TV land that don't want to hear that the two remaining contenders are left hanging. Chris Harrison will probably come out and listen to Emily's lament that she's still not sure and would like more time.

Which will be allowed, with the final rose being given one hour before the Bachelor Pad premiere or otherwise strategically aired.

Or else, I offer with a muse, Emily might choose Chris Harrison himself. I understand he's now separated from his wife and….well it's kind of an amusing, and shocking thought.

Cause I understand Chris Harrison has baggage of a couple of kids, smirk.

Bachelorette Emily Takes Final Three to Curacao, Shocking Elimination; Soon We Meet Emily's Family

Pic of Day
Taxi!

Spoiler alert for episode aired 7/9/12.

So the whole Bachelorette crew heads off to Curacao and the three remaining fellows-Sean,Jef, and Arie, along with Emily, go on a jaunt that would have Emily going down to the final two.

I was shocked at the outcome of last night's Rose Ceremony. I predicted Sean would win this thing and he didn't even make the final two.

But I still got opinions and I'm still willing to type them out.

First, I really think Emily could stop with the dramatics. Which is not to say that emotion is a bad thing and even in the case of this somewhat melodramatic, slightly over-done show, it's sometimes appropriate.

Dear Lord this woman cried over sending one of the guys home, she cried for almost the entire episode, folks it was a bit much, really.

I'm quite sure the concept of eliminating contenders is not new to Emily. She herself was once a young woman looking to hook up with an eligible Bachelor. She'd been to many rose ceremonies where emotionally involved females got thrown over the side. She knew that one of the more emotionally difficult jobs of the Bachelor(ette) was to be in a position of hurting someone's feelings.

Of course it's admirable that Emily doesn't take hurting someone lightly but there's a limit producers. Last night's episode had Emily crying in some form or fashion for almost twenty minutes of the show. I wanted to throw something at my TV, tell her to grow up.

Sean-Sent Packing by Emily, to many tears

As for the two remaining contenders, I am at a loss.

I don't particularly like Arie. When Emily queried him about his day, what time does he get up, that sort of thing, Arie said he awakes around 9 am and spends many evenings with his friends.

Arie is a race car driver and doesn't work 9-5 hours, I understand that. And Emily was married to a race car driver so she must know the drill.

But Arie does not appeal to me, there's just something I don't like much about him.

Emily adores kissing him and yeah, kissing is nice. But to try and base a life-long relationship on it?

As for Jef, now he's an interesting guy. First, he says the stupidest stuff, but he means well.

Below a video of Jef reading some kind of letter to Emily. I don't think of word of all the praises he rains down on Emily is true.

I like Jef, do not be confused. He comes from a very religious family, Mormons. His parents evidently have real issues with this televised dating thing as they were not on hand to meet Emily and Jef even mentioned how skeptical his parents were over this whole thing.

.  A very interesting thing about this date was that Fantasy Suite. I've always thought the fantasy suite thing was in bad taste. It's never quite said out loud, but it is imputed that the occupants of said fantasy suite spend the night together doing everything spending the night together entails. It's not that I'm a prude to condemn pre-marital sex. I do think a woman, or a man, who can spend three different nights with three separate sex partners, as being a bit slutty. I rise to caution here that I'm not entirely convinced that there's always sex going on in those fantasy suites.

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/swflash.cab" height="250" id="Player_cfe67ead-457d-4c93-92bc-8dbcfcb7a481" width="300"> http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?rt=tf_ssw&ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=US&ID=V20070822%2FUS%2Ffishbookrevi-20%2F8003%2Fcfe67ead-457d-4c93-92bc-8dbcfcb7a481&Operation=GetDisplayTemplate">http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?rt=tf_ssw&ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=US&ID=V20070822%2FUS%2Ffishbookrevi-20%2F8003%2Fcfe67ead-457d-4c93-92bc-8dbcfcb7a481&Operation=GetDisplayTemplate" id="Player_cfe67ead-457d-4c93-92bc-8dbcfcb7a481" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff" name="Player_cfe67ead-457d-4c93-92bc-8dbcfcb7a481" allowscriptaccess="always"  type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" height="250px" width="300px">

The producers kind of want viewers to THINK there's sex going on, and often there probably is, but I am not so sure it's as often as the producers would have us believe. Were I , say, a final three on a handsome Bachelor's list, I'd never spend a night with him if I thought for a second that just the prior night he'd enjoyed a night in the same suite with, say, Betty Lou.

Emily made a big deal about NOT spending the night with any of the final three in that fantasy suite. She didn't want to set a bad example for her daughter and hey, I can see Emily's daughter someday watching that show and the thought of her watching her mother spend three nights with three different men does kind of seem really wrong.

Jef, to his credit, was the one who eschewed the fantasy suite, mentioning that he understood that Ricki would someday watch the show and it would not do to have her see her mother and some guy head off to spend the night together. In fact, Emily even put on a fake rant, complaining that SHE wanted to be the one turning Jef down. I had to smile. This is how woman think and I won't hold it against Emily.

At any rate, there appears to be a surprise ending shaping up. Vignettes of future episodes have Emily saying to Chris Harrison something to the effect that there's nothing else she can do. Harrison responds that she is deceiving the remaining two in some fashion. These vignettes of future episodes are met to lure the viewer in to watch the episode previewed. Which I shall do, of course.

For now, and as rumors across the Internet have it, the speculation is that Emily will not necessarily refuse either guy, per Brad Womack, but she will tell the two she's not ready to pick one just yet but she would like to continue dating them AFTER the show is over. That whole scenario seems so improbable to me but I offer the rumors as is my wont.

Check back on this Blog for more opinions and snark.

Bachelorette Emily 2012-Let the Home Town Dates Begin

Pic of Day

SPOILER ALERT for the episode aired 7/2/12

I can't remember a time when I've heard more gobbly-gook and double-speak than on the home town dates aired on The Bachelorette on 7/2/12.

Except, perhaps, on the episode of The Bachelorette before that.

This show requires that the participants speak in general terms, that words be cloaked to somehow work around what's actually happening here.

Because we've got a beautiful woman meeting the parents and family of four guys. Their whole "relationship" was part of a popular television series. Every mother, father, sister and brother of those four guys know that no matter how much their beloved speaks well of Emily, knows that there's three other guys out there saying the same thing.
Sean

It was Sean's mother who broached the subject of Emily's prior relationship with Brad and good on her. If it was my son this would be the very first subject I'd bring up.

The parents of the other contenders might have brought up the subject as well but it was only this scene that was televised, I hasten to add.

"Well, you know," Emily began, "Brad and I, we weren't in the same place," Emily went on. At which Sean's mother murmured, as she murmured constantly during Emily's "explanation" of her and Brad's short and rocky relationship. No matter what silly terminology Emily used, Sean's mother would murmur to the effect "of course, of course" and I wanted to slap her.

If that were my son I'd be speaking plain and stern to this young woman.

"I have no problem with this rather unique way to find a mate," I'd say. "Nowadays there's all kinds of novel ways to meet people, online dating, speed dating….that sort of thing. But you done went an entire season and declared your love and devotion to a guy who from the very start was suspect as being a flake."

I wouldn't even let Emily get an "I know" in cause I'd not be done.
Chris Gone After Home Town Rose Ceremony

"So I question how you could love my son, if it comes to that, when you'd so publicly declared a love, to the point of being engaged, for another fellow on television and that ended badly. How on earth am I supposed to trust that you won't hurt my son with such a shallow tendency? Brad Womack, man, any girl with half a brain would have avoided him like the dickens."

I realize my scripted rant above wouldn't make good TV but it's how I feel about the rather vapid Emily and her questionable choices. I believe Emily's out for the media exposure and my son, were he one of the final four home town contenders, would just be a pawn.

Which I think those four fellow are but that's just me.

I have no reason to wish an unhappy ending on Emily and I do not. But come on, Brad Womack?

At any rate, let's have a look at these final three guys.

We begin with my prediction on who is going to win Emily's hand . I believe it will be Sean. Sean played a silly but cute little joke with Emily on the home town date show and he fooled me. He acted as if he were making a painful confession then declared that he was still living "here", said "here" being the very beautiful home of his parents. Of course a grown man close to 30 should not still be living at his parents and when I was a young, single, pretty lass I'd throw such a guy overboard toot d sweet. Sean also took Emily up to see what was allegedly his bedroom, which was a mess, filled with trash and crumbs. At this point I kind of figured it was a joke and hey, it was cute.

Jef of the beautiful hair
Jef is the fellow with the gorgeous hair. Jef is a Mormon and wow, he's got a huge family. Jef's parents were not on the hometown show as they were supposedly out on some "missionary" work. A man who springs from religious stock, Emily could do worse. In Emily's case, I think she'll consider it a strike against Jef.

Arie
As for Arie, he's my second choice for Emily. Emily rode in a race car with Arie, a bit of drama scripted for the show, I'm sure. Recall that Emily's former fiance, father of her daughter Ricki, was a Nascar race car driver. Arie's choice as a contender was perfect for the drama and sobs it would bring back. Arie is Dutch, and his mother spoke Dutch in front of Emily, responded to by both Arie and his father. Speaking a foreign language over the head of an invited guest is considered bad manners. Though I'm not at all sure this scene wasn't scripted as it sure seemed to be.

Finally, there's Emily. Lookit, Emily is quite attractive, no denying. And honestly she seems nice enough and between Emily and Brad Womack I'd readily say that Womack was the problem. This guy was a bad egg as far back as his first appearance on The Bachelor when he rather haughtily declared no lovelorn contenders were worthy of his fine self. But those fellows need to ponder that

Emily is used to the finer things in life, she's all about Emily (and her daughter), she's not for your average coal miner. I think Sean will fill the bill but he needs to carefully guard his heart and ponder all the caveats of a life with the very beautiful, pampered Emily.

Monday

The Bachelorette 2012-Four Left. Winner Obvious, One's a Wild Man

SPOILER ALERT-for The Bachelorette episode aired 6/25/12.

Even though Bachelorette Emily claims that she wants to keep Ricki in the background and away from all this attention, it seems like at least once an episode we see Ricky in some capacity.

Now I don't have a problem with this. I don't think Ricki being around is a problem, either for the audience or for Ricki.

It's just that Emily states so often that she doesn't want Ricki around while all this is going on and yet Ricki always seems to be around.

I'm jus' sayin'.

On the episode aired 6/11/12 the whole kid thing got a little obnoxious.

First, Emily talks a lot about finding a father, both a father for more children Emily would like to have and, of course, a father figure for Ricki. One of the contenders said something to the effect that Ricki was part of Emily's "baggage" and no, that wasn't very nice.

It's a true statement but it's not nice to say it.

Because Ricki, as adorable as she might be, is a sort of "baggage" that Emily brings to a relationship. Hey, that's the way of the world. Man got kids from first marriage, she's got kids from prior relationship...it's a kind of emotional "baggage".

The problem is baggage is not a nice term to refer to children, who are only little human beings who didn't ask to be here. The term baggage seems to indicate some kind of excess luggage that isn't really needed and of course that's not the case.

But again, it is the way sometimes people talk when getting all down and honest.

It was contender Kalon who referred to Ricki as baggage and goodness the entire episode revolved around this incident, leading to lots of cussing, sudden and angry rejections, distrust, tears, sobs and tantrums.
Jef is third from left.  Note fabulous hair.

Ok Emily, we get it. It was wrong for Kalon to call your child baggage but Kalon was always a bit of a goof. Goodness the man made his arrival on the first episode of Emily's season from a helicopter!

The drama was a nice diversion, however and things got serious again.

On the episode aired 6/18/12, the group went to Croatia. I must assume that the production company gets big discounts for going to some out of the way place like Croatia.

This episode ended oddly, with Emily unable to eliminate one of the two left after giving the rest roses during the Rose ceremony.

Emily had a one on one date with Travis and Ryan. Travis got sent home, Ryan got rose on his date.

Which left seven contenders on an episode which should have culled down the competition to six.

The six left were:

Arie, Chris, Doug, Jef, John,  Sean.

At the end of this episode I was left with the distinct feeling this would wind down to two contenders: Jef and Sean.

Jef's got the best hairstyle of any bachelor contender….ever. I thought this deserved mentioning.

Emily seems to be very fond of Sean and let's never forget that Sean was the choice of her friends on the date when all the guys met and answered questions posed by Emily's friends.

On the episode that aired on 6/25/12 there was a weird incident involving Sean. All of a sudden Sean decided, late in the evening and after Emily returned from a one on one date with another contender, Sean gets it in his head that he has to see Emily.

The show airs a scene that has Sean looking allegedly over the city of Prague until he eventually finds Emily walking down an alleyway.

How likely is that scenario?

I suspect that Emily summoned Sean because, well she wanted to see him. Those contenders can't just go willy-nilly looking up the Bachelor(ette) on a whom.

On the 6/25/12-both Doug and John were sent home and there was much angst. Doug steals an inartful kiss from Emily but alas, it was too late.

Emily kept Chris but I sure don't know why. The guy seems like a nut to me and Emily doesn't seem to much like him.

Jef, of the fabulous hairstyle, is entirely too young and Arie...well Emily likes how he kisses so he might still be in there.

It's down to Arie and Sean as the top two is my prediction and I think Sean will win hands down.

Sunday

Bachelorette 2012 Emily Maynard Used to the Finer Things In Life

Pic of Day

So Emily's busy assessing the contenders for her hand in The Bachelorette  and there's been some intrigue.

On the episode aired 5/21/12, Emily took Ryan on a one on one date.

For the group date that week, Emily had all the guys working a Muppet show.

Some interesting revelations: Emily thinks Chris is good looking. Charlie has a speech impediment he got from a nasty fall off of a balcony. Jef has a big pompador hairstyle and I don't know why he uses on F in his name. The guys do not seem to like Kalon. Look for Kalon to be this season's evil guy.

Emily gave Jef of the pompadour the group date rose.

Emily took Joe on a one on one date in her home state of West Virginia. What's so intriguing about this date is what the viewers learned about Emily's childhood.

Emily took Joe to the famous spa/resort-Greenbriar. Emily told her date stories about her childhood, how she had many memories of playing with her brother in the very pool in which they were swimming.

Shop Amazon - Father's Day Gifts

Greenbriar, ladies and gems, is one of the ritziest places in this country. Emily, I must discern, comes from a family with money.

Joe, alas, was not given a rose after the one on one date and was immediately sent home. Also sent home that night via no rose given during ceremony-Aaron and Kyle.

On the episode aired on 5/28/12-, Emily arranged for a one on one date with Chris, the guy she thinks is so good looking. She told him that if she'd met him in any other venue that she'd be too scared to talk to him. Chris acted surprised and asked why. She said he was so good looking he was a bit intimidating.

Come on.

Emily Maynard is one gorgeous female. There should not be a male on this planet she'd be nervous about approaching. They'd ALL welcome her, I got a bridge to sell anyone who believes this tale.

Emily did get a bit concerned by Chris' age. He is only 25 and Emily said she was most often attracted to older guys. Still she gave him a rose for the date.

There were some more interesting events during this episode. Emily pick Arie, the race car driver, for a one on one date.

The race car driver….this is almost too clever by half. Emily's boyfriend who died in the plane crash, and the father of her little girl, was a race car driver.

For the group date Emily took the guys to a playground to meet some kids as well as her friends. Her friends liked Sean and Doug out of the guys.

Contender Ryan warns Emily not to get fat. Heh, way to go Ryan.

Travis finally broke his egg he was carrying around as symbol of how he'd treat his love for Emily and Kalon cut off Emily and told her to stop interrupting.

Emily kissed both Sean and Arie. She gave Arie a rose on their one on one date and Sean got one on the group date.

Two guys were sent home DURING the show. One, Tony, was the guy with a son. This scene was so scripted my 8 year old granddaughter could have written it. Tony spoke to his son on the phone and gave an acting job that would get him thrown off of a school stage.

Emily tried to comfort him but finally she told him that he wasn't going to make the cut, that he ought to just pack up and go home to his son.

Another fellow sent packing was Alessandro. Heh. Alessandro said that marrying a woman with a child was a big compromise. He also admitted to Emily's friends that he'd cheated on a former girlfriend and had a few one night stands.

Stevie was sent home during the Rose ceremony.

On the most recent episode of The Bachelorette, 6/4/12, the gang went to Bermuda.

This show featured a one on one date, a group date and the very tense two on one date. Two guys go on a date with the Bachelor(ette) but only one comes backs. The Bachelor(ette) must decide who to send home DURING the date.

Emily chose Nate and John for this two on one date. Nate, a bit of a blubberer tearing up at the thought of his friends for God's sake, got the book.

Jef got a rose on the group date. John got a rose on the two on one date and Doug, a fellow with a son who got the very first impression rose, was chosen for a one on one date and he was awarded a rose by Emily.

During the rose ceremony, Charlie, a likable guy who suffered a bad accident that gave him a speech impediment, and Michael, did not get a rose and were sent home.

Left are:
Alejandro
Arie
Chris
Doug
Jef
John
Kalon
Ryan
Sean
Travis

Of the above, so far Emily seems to be smitten with Sean and Doug.

Pic of Day

So It begins for Bachelorette Emily Maynard and this promises to be an interesting Bachelorette season.
Emily was Brad Womack's choice for his bride during Brad's SECOND season of The Bachelor.  If we can agree on one thing, and let's get it out of the way now, it's that Brad Womack is a real loser.
Brad didn't pick any woman during his first season on the Bachelor.  Emily was his choice for his second chance to find love on TV(I know, the whole concept is problematic) but as the platitude goes, "things didn't work out" between Brad and Emily.

For her part, Emily seems nice enough, although they are all on their best behavior as contenders on this dating show.  She has an interesting but sad story.
She was engaged to NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, who was killed in an airplane crash.  Emily was pregnant with their child, Ricki, and now takes care of her daughter while looking for love for herself.

On May 14, 2012, 25 guys came to meet Emily and one of them, if the climax of the show implied comes true (and it almost never does), will become Emily's husband.
The first night of The Bachelorette has the bachelorette dressed to the nine's as she greets the many would-be beaus as they come to meet her and hopefully move on to contend for her hand.
Emily was quite beautiful and as often happens, the contenders came with many gimmicks to get her attention, perhaps get that all-important "first impression" rose.
Contender Doug too is a single Dad raising a young child and I thought he was a bit of a pain.  It was fine when, upon introduction to Emily, he mentioned his young child.  It was even, granting leeway, a good idea; get that precious something in common out there, hope it will pull Emily to him.
During the first night cocktail party, though, when he gets Emily alone he pulls out this paper that was written by his son.
Well it was a sappy something or other written by Doug's young son, to the effect of how much he loves his Daddy and how much he wants his Daddy to be happy.
Doug did get that first impression rose so I'll shut up.  Evidently Emily didn't think it was sappy.
Contender Jef arrived by skateboard...I don't know what that's all about.  Contender Kalon arrived by helicopter and I mean just damn, what a way to impress, huh?
The contenders often bring along some  item ,  generally  an item to which some meaning or import is ascribed that will cause the bachelorette to swoon with the joy of it.
Contender Tony had a glass slipper which he asked Emily to don, to see if it fit, to ascertain if Tony might be Emily's prince.

Contender Travis had, get this, an egg.  He told Emily that he would treat their relationship as he would the fragile egg he coddled so gently in his arms.  Even more amusing, all night Travis carried that egg around in his arms and I didn't know whether to admire him for his meterosexual gentleness or scorn him for being a bit dumb.
Five of the 25 introduced to Emily were sent home that night.  Brent was 41 years old; I'm guessing Emily thought him a bit too old.

David is a "singer/songwriter" and I speculate again that this is an occupation that probably isn't paying a lot.
Jackson is a "fitness model" and I see know discernible reason for his rejection except, perhaps that he isn't all that good looking.
Contender Jean-Paul confessed that he didn't know much about The Bachelorette so he got sent home.  Perhaps he should have studied up.

Finally, one kind of creepy guy named Lerone went on and on about how thrilled he was that Emily had a child, how he was overjoyed to maybe gain an instant family.
If I were Emily I'd have sent him too.  How many men are so thrilled to have an instant family?  I mean it's not the sort of thing that is the first thing you profess to like about your possible future love.
I don't know, of course, Emily's reasons for rejecting the contenders for her love that she rejected but I was a young woman once.  I could throw a guy under the bus real quick without bother of a lot of dating time, angst and mental duels.

At any rate, there's 20 contenders left and we'll be checking in from time to time.  When Emily culls her group of guys down to ten we'll be writing up a post every week.  Until then, check in.  If an episode suits my fancy I'll be right on it.
