Illinois Killer Obsessed With Hamas

The Illinois shooter, Steve Kazmierczak, first covered on this Blog HERE, reportedly had an obsession with the terror group Hamas and all things Muslim.

From WND.com:
Kazmierczak Illinois school shooter montage

A former Northern Illinois University newspaper reporter says the killer who gunned down five innocent students in an apparently unprovoked attack liked to study Arabic and the terror group Hamas.

Acquaintances of this killer, now burning in hell, all say what a nice guy he was, how helpful he was and how much he loved his mother. The sorts of things friends and neighbors say when the guy they’d known for so long up and kills his whole family or, say, five students sitting innocently in a classroom.

Goodness knows there’s been enough of these slayings that had no Islam association but with Kazmierczak there’s no denying it. Beginning with the fact that his girlfriend, Abdelnabi, was the Muslim Women’s Rep at NIU. Beyond that, Kazmierczak signed up for many Arabic studies, struggled to learn Arabic with the help of his girlfriend, and undertook a report assignment on Hamas and became obsessed with the terror group to the point of reading everything he could about the organization.

All of which pretty much means nothing I understand.

But it’s interesting nonetheless.

Steve Kazmierczak might be a hero to the members of Hamas. Islam is a religion that admires folks who kill themselves in direct contradiction of everything that is normal in the natural order of things.

Illegal Alien Driver Hits Minnesota School Bus

Jesse Javens, 13, and Hunter Javens, 9; Reed Stevens, 12; Emilee Olson, 9, are all dead. Two of them are brothers. These children should be alive today, laughing and giggling, throwing paper airplanes and thinking about their weekends.

Alianiss Morales ran a stop sign and hit the school bus so hard that she upended the bus, killing the four above and sending nine more to the hospital. Many of the injured are in very bad shape.

Only problem is, Ms. Morales is not this bitch’s real name and she had no business being in our country and killing our kids.

Someone quick, tell John McCain.

From WRAL.com:
MINNEAPOLIS — The driver of a van that hit a school bus in a crash that killed four children was charged Friday with four counts of criminal vehicular homicide and two lesser charges, authorities said.

The woman, identified as Alianiss Nunez Morales, 23, of Minneota, failed to stop at a stop sign Tuesday before hitting the bus, which was carrying 28 students from Lakeview School, a prosecutor said. The accident happened near the small town of Cottonwood in southwestern Minnesota.

Well of course the political elite trying to shove amnesty down our collective throats for 11 million plus illegal aliens now residing in our country, well hell, it ain’t their kids getting killed by these people!

What was I thinking?

Monster Parents Leave 5-Month Old Baby in Car Seat for Eight Days

Fine, fine parents, Tracey Herrman and James Sargent. They left their five month old baby strapped helplessly in a car seat for eight days before the child was discovered, dead by starvation.

Jesus now holds this precious innocent in His loving arms. There’s no reason for those parents to have allowed this to happen. The entire eight days while their baby wasted away to a slow death, these two were eating, playing video games and having a fine time.

It’s not clear how the baby got left in the car seat, just that he was “dropped off”.

This fine mother also has another three year old daughter who has been removed from her mother’s care, thank God for this.

Baby Herrmann left to die by parents

From Foxnews.com:
PEORIA, Ill. — A central Illinois couple faces first-degree murder charges in the death of their 5-month-old baby, who was found unresponsive in a car seat that had been placed in a crib.

May they burn forever in hell.

Loving Dad Chokes Daughter and Stuffs Her Body Into Furnace

Once again we have a fine, quiet man who was so helpful to anyone who had maintenance problems.

Except he once tried to torch his car with all of his children locked inside. He also tried to hang himself when in jail once before.

For no matter how proper these nut cases appear in public, there’s almost always a dark side no one saw, or if they saw it, they ignored it.

From CNN.com:
NEW YORK (AP) -- To neighbors, Miguel Matias was a doting father who took his three children to restaurants and bought them presents.

Ana Matias

But the unassuming building supervisor also had a dark side, including a history of violence and mental problems.

Police said his torment peaked last week when he grew so enraged that his 14-year-old daughter, Ana, was sending text messages to a boy that he choked her and stuffed her body into a burning furnace boiler.

It’s not clear whether this guy is a legal resident or not. All communication in the investigation, as noted at the link provided, has been in Spanish.

With his history of threatened violence toward his children, why was this guy allowed custody of his daughter?

High Profile Army Murder Trials to Begin This Summer

Fort Bragg is gearing up for three high profile trials scheduled to begin this summer. This Blog has extensively covered two of these crimes, that of Timothy Hennis and Alberto Martinez.

Timothy Hennis’ scheduled trial should be the most intriguing as Hennis had been tried and found guilty for the rape/murder of a young mother and her two daughters. A superior court later overturned the verdict. A subsequent retrial left the jury deadlocked. Newer DNA techniques now available have linked Hennis definitively to the crimes and since double jeopardy prevents Hennis from being tried again in a civil court, the military tried a tricky maneuver by calling Hennis back from inactive duty specifically to try him for this horrible crime.

Well the man DID IT! Although the Hennis maneuver is a subject of judicial debate across the fruited plains. I’ll not forget the young girls who should be alive today, singing to their children and sharing sisterly gossip about their husbands and lives. Not to mention their mother who was raped before her awful death. All the while Hennis lived a fine life courtesy of the military to retire to peace and contentment with an army pension.

Alberto Martinez is accused of lobbing a live grenade into the tent of superior officers in a fit of rage while on duty in Iraq in 2005.

William Kreutzer’s story is unfamiliar to me. Kreutzer was evidently a bit mentally ill and opened fire on his comrades during morning formation, killing one soldier and wounding dozens of others.

The military is a unique organization, filled with members all trained to fight and fire weapons. It’s amazing that they have so few criminals when one thinks about it. Out here in the “civilized” world we have parents leaving five-month-old babies in cars for eight days and fathers throwing their dead daughters in boilers.

From the Chicago Tribune:

Inside a solitary courtroom on this sprawling Army base, three high-profile murder trials -- all of which highlight some of the darkest moments in recent military memory -- are slated to begin this summer.

”Good” Boy Hires Hit Men to Kill His Parents

I love my daughter, really I do. But go with me on this, if it were discovered and revealed to me that my daughter was soliciting hit men to murder me and my husband, the first words out of my mouth would NOT be what a “very good child” she was.

People who pay $260. to kill their parents are NOT good people. This is a given. Common sense demands it is so.

From MSNBC.com:
Jacob Jett

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - A high school senior accused of trying to pay hit men $260 to kill his adoptive parents had always been a "very good child," his mother said through tears Wednesday.

This fine son, such a very good child, gave the would-be hitmen three guns, an ATM card complete with PIN and his parent’s home’s security code.

His parents must be so proud of him.

In fact, they are!

Murder of 15-Year Old by 15-Year Old Deemed “Hate Crime”

Okay, once again, repeat after me. A crime is a crime is a crime. It does not matter what the hell motivated the crime, the killing of another human being is a crime punishable by whatever local laws dictate for the crime.

Of course liberal legislators got to go passing ridiculous laws against so-called “hate” crimes which, I don’t know, maybe increases the sentence or some such. Mostly hate crime laws make the living and safe somehow feel better that no one will harm them because of the laws their elected officials so lovingly passed.

While the person pulling the trigger could care less about whether or not what he or she is about to do would be a hate crime that they may think again about their impending actions.

From the NY Times:
Lawrence King

In recent weeks, the victim, Lawrence King, 15, had said publicly that he was gay, classmates said, enduring harassment from a group of schoolmates, including the 14-year-old boy charged in his death.

So since Lawrence King had recently proclaimed publicly his homosexuality that MUST be why Brandon McInerney shot and killed him one day in the class room.

Evidently McInerney’s attorney has shut his client up and not much is being said about why he shot King. The article linked does detail King’s recent “coming out” and how he proudly wore lipstick, mascara and fetching boots to school on a daily basis.

King was estranged from his natural family and lived in a foster home.

Something just ain’t right about this whole thing.

Drew Peterson’s Ex-Wife Savio’s Death Ruled Homicide

Not that this surprised anyone. In fact, Dr. Baden already announced this conclusion on Greta’s show a few moons ago.

Now, Savio’s death as homicide as been ruled official. My question, who the hell screwed this obvious murder up originally?

From Yahoo.com:
CHICAGO - Amid the search for a former police officer's fourth wife, an autopsy on the exhumed body of the man's third wife found what her relatives have long suspected — her death was no accident.

Kathleen Savio died by drowning and her death was ruled a homicide, Dr. Larry W. Blum said in an autopsy report released Thursday by the state's attorney's office. It was the second autopsy performed on Savio.

Fine Woman Helps Boyfriend Videotape His Sexual Attacks on Her Niece

While Shiela Sikat has the courage to admit her terrible complicity in the sexual assault on her niece, Shiela’s sister and mother of the assaulted child, is pleading for leniency for her sister.

Women are, of course, the weaker sex. But when it comes to children females are ferocious in their protection of same.

First Aunt Shiela let her niece down. Now the child’s mother is letting her own daughter down.

Shiela Sikat

From KTLA.com:
Rancho Santa Margarita woman facing up to 109 years in prison for helping her boyfriend videotape sexual assaults on her 4-year-old niece told a judge she deserved to be punished for her actions, even though her sister -- and mother of the victim -- asked for leniency.

Fine, Good Looking Fellow Accused of Having Sex With Rottweiler

Here’s a fine fellow who is totally in love with a neighbor’s Rottweiler. In fact, the dog’s owners have reported this guy before, including one episode where the pervert actually taped his X-rated activities with the dog.

Cowman also allegedly put up weird pictures of himself with animals on his web site.

From KSN.com:
WICHITA, Kansas, Feb. 20, 2008 -- Wichita police say they're working a case they don't often see: a man accused of having sex with a dog. And it's not the first time the man's been in this type of trouble.

Effective this week, the review, unique pics and videos you’ll find nowhere else on the Internet, and would-be Idols eliminated will be posted on Thursday nights immediately AFTER the elimination show. The review posted will be of the prior contests earlier that same week and will include my guess as to who will be sent home.

Which might be an incorrect guess, mind you, as the review et al will have been written/compiled BEFORE the elimination round. Thus the contender eliminated will be posted on this Blog right after it is announced so click on in for the first result.

”American Idol” 2008- Let’s Look At the Final 24

CLICK HERE FOR Pics of Top 24 American Idol 2008 Finalists

At the bottom of this review there is a remix of some of the best and worst performances of the top 24 of “American Idol” 2008.

The top 24 contenders, four of which have already been sent home as of this writing, are a compendium of the mediocre to the spectacular. This year the contenders are allowed to play an instrument as they sing and a few did.

I have some issues with a few of the better contenders in that they are, well they’re not American. They are not American at least by birth. One of the most promising female contenders had visa problems during an earlier tryout but why would a citizen need a visa?

We’ve got the male equivalent of Jordin Sparks, weird names and male hair styles that defy and baffle. There’s a plus size model in the competition and a few real female beauties.

On 2/19/08, the final 12 male contenders competed. The theme was music of the sixties, right up my alley.

David Hernandez sang “Wait Till the Midnight Hour”. The judges rather liked this young man but by me, he was rather forgettable.

Next a fellow who goes by the name of Chikezie performed “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday”. First, that name is totally dumb. It looks and sounds like a chicken’s name, maybe a fried chicken restaurant. Second, this is a guy who was cut last year right before the final 24. Third, he definitely should have avoided that ridiculous red suit.

Simon, always the curmudgeon, hated Chickezie’s suit AND singing. Simon referred to this contender as “Jacuzzi” and that’s just one problem when your name is Chikezie.

Chikezie montage

David Cook sang “Happy Together”. The judges liked David and by me, he might make the top ten.

Jason Yeager came up and sang “Moon River”.

Here’s a rule of thumb I offer for all would-be American Idols: do not EVER sing “Moon River” except perhaps as part of a final five performance once your singing bona fides are established.

For to sing such a tune from the start almost automatically labels the singer as a lounge lizard, a cruise ship crooner, a leisure suited Karaoke balladeer. The judges did not like Jason, who might be a fine singer save for his bad choice of music. I predicted, so my notes indicate, that Jason would be eliminated this go round. He was not so let’s hope Mr. Yeager is a little more picky with his song choices.

David Archuleta is the male to watch during this competition. I consider David this year’s male Jordin Sparks. He is young like Jordin, 17 years of age. He has that big toothy smile and smooth skin of the young. He’s got a terrific voice and all in all, he’s a total package. David sang “Shop Around” and was liked by all of the judges.

Robbie Carrico sang “One Is the Loneliest Number” and he did a nice job. However, somebody tell Robbie to lose the head scarf. What’s up with that? The judges also liked Robbie. He’ll be around for a few more rounds I predict.

Danny Noriega sang an Elvis tune “Jailhouse Rock”. Well here’s another suggestion to all future AI contenders, avoid all Elvis tunes until later in the contest. It’s not that Danny did a bad job. It’s just that Elvis tunes so early in the competition make one think of Elvis impersonators and that image does not lend itself to visions of a future American Idol.

Noriega performed okay and he’s a cutie pie although I whisper softly that Danny might prefer boys to girls but that’s just me. And not that there’s anything wrong with that. He’s got the most gorgeous eyes of all the contenders and with a better choice of songs he could make the top ten. Simon called the performance “grotesque” but I think that’s a bit much.

Speaking of Simon Cowell the judge, I notice that he’s particularly brutal this early in the series. Perhaps he’s been just as brutal around in this time in the prior series but I hadn’t noticed. One must assume that Simon wants to pound into the dewy eyed contenders the error of their ways that they may straighten up and fly right real quick.

We move on to Luke Menard, a fellow who gave a really bad performance at least as this amateur music critic sees it. Luke sang “Echos of my Mind” and the judges didn’t care for Mr. Menard either. I predicted that Luke would be one of the fellows eliminated which he was not. I don’t think Luke will last much longer.

Montage of Guys from Top 24 American Idol 2008

Colton Berry was a young man who also sang an Elvis song-“Suspicion”. This Elvis tune does not bring Elvis impersonators immediately to mind but still, it’s an Elvis tune. Colton WAS sent home on elimination night-2/21/08. Simon and I both took exception with Colton’s hair, which Simon thought was more on Colton’s mind than his singing.

Another fellow who didn’t make it through, Garrett Haley, sang “Breaking Up is Hard to Do”. Now there’s a song with a bunch of potential. Instead Haley sang the entire tune softly, sweetly, punctuated with his own divine head of curly hair which surrounded his face like a halo.

Simon said this guy looked like he needed some time outside in the sunshine for his ghostly pallor. America voted Haley off first vote and it was a good decision.

Jason Castro was the only guy who played an instrument, a guitar. Jason sang “What a Day for a Daydream” and this guy has possibilities.

Although, first thing, what’s with that hair? So okay, perhaps those horse-hair braid like things are all the rage and if any of the contenders can pull it off it would be Mr. Castro. Jason has a very nice voice capable of a fine falsetto. He manages to do well with that guitar and I can see Jason in the top ten, perhaps the top five, as someone new, different and fresh.

Finally Michael Johns, one of the older contenders in this contest, performed “Light My Fire” and there’s a tune that’s a challenge. Mr. Johns is from Australia and again, I wonder, should an Australian be an American Idol? Make no mistake, Michael is very good and America is a land of opportunity as we welcome them to our shores.

If that bit about being Australian doesn’t alienate the voting public, I can see Michael Johns winning this thing.

The top twelve females performed on 2/20/08 and by me there’s a few formidable contenders.

The evening began with Kristi Lee Cook who sang “Rescue Me”. I think you need a pretty big voice to belt out that tune and Kristi was at best average by American Idol standards. I understand she was very sick the night of that performance; indeed many of the females had been bitten by some nasty flu bug. Kudos to all of them because I could not see any sign of sickness in any of them our here in audience land.

The judges all lambasted Miss Cook and I pegged her as one who would be sent home first try. She was not but I’ve doubts about how long Kristi will last.

Joanne Borgello is a plus-sized model, a very pretty young woman with a so-so voice. Joanne performed “Say a Little Prayer”, Dionne Warwick’s famous tune. Joanne made a fatal mistake and I will once again, like I do every year, post this warning to all contenders who read this Blog. And don’t kid yourself, plenty of them do, all searching the Internet furiously for what is being said about them. Do not EVER admit to a bad performance.

In fact Joanne was voted off on the following elimination night and by me she deserved to be around for a couple more shows at least. But as soon as Simon and to a lesser extent the other judges critiqued Joanne’s performance as only adequate, Joanne immediately went weak and said she would do better next time.

DON’T DO THIS.

Even if your performance was worse than the worst Karaoke singer, keep saying you did your best, that you’re proud of your performance. Don’t reinforce negative criticism in the voting public’s mind. Which is not to say you should ignore criticism but there’s no rule that says you gotta admit to a bad performance in front of millions of people.

Next Alaina Whitaker sang “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday”. I think Alaina has a real nice voice although I noticed she had very poor timing on her breaths. The judges liked Alaina as a rule and Paula particularly noted Alaina’s fantastic ending, which is part of the video remix below.

Amanda Overmyer is allegedly a nurse who rides a Harley and here’s one to watch out for. Amanda has a deep, throaty voice and this could very well be a good year for Amanda’s song style. Miss Overmyer does, of course, like to belt out Janis Joplin tunes, what with her voice and style so similar. Amanda performed “Baby Please Don’t Go”. Frankly I thought this wasn’t as good a performance as I’d seen in the initial tryouts and in Hollywood. Simon thought Amanda was all over the place and so did I.

Amy Davis is 25% Japanese with a beautiful set of eyes to match. Amy sang “Where the Boys Are” and it was the worst performance of the night. The song was pitchy, breathy, weak and lackluster.

In fact, Amy Davis was sent home the following elimination night and this was a good choice. Amy looked good but her voice just wasn’t going to cut it.

Brooke White is perhaps the prettiest female of them all. She is married and employed as a Nanny. Brooke sang “Happy Together” and while I’m not convinced that Brooke will win this thing or make the top five, I do see her as being around for a few more weeks.

Alexandra Lushington performed “What Goes Up Must Come Down”, a virtually undistinguished performance as I heard it. Randy loved the performance and I began to wonder if I missed something. Simon intensely disliked the performance so it wasn’t just me.

Montage of Girls from Top 24 American Idol 2008

Next up Kady Malloy sang “Groovy Kind of Love”. Kady has a nice deep voice but the judges lambasted her for being “too controlled”. Simon went so far to call the performance the “night of the living dead”. Well it wasn’t that bad.

Asia ‘H Epperson sang a Janis Joplin tune, a bit of a nervy choice what with Amanda Overmyer practically owning Janis Joplin in this contest. Asia sang “Take Another Piece of My Heart” and she gave one great performance. Asia is definitely one to watch in this contest and yes, I can see her winning this thing. And her earrings are amazing.

Ramiele Malubay is just a little thing. She sang the Dusty Springfield tune “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” and I loved it. I do think that Ramiele needs to be mindful of her damn eyes and open them up once in a while when she sings. The judges all liked Ramiele, one declaring hers the best performance of the night. Ramiele should make it to the top five, at the least the top ten. She could win this thing.

Syesha Mercado sang “Tobacco Road”. Syesha is another contender that could go far. My only caveat about this performance is that Syesha came close, very, very close, to screaming.

She needs to show us that powerful voice but be careful of that line which separates grand control with singing mania.

Carly Smithson is definitely one to watch for. Carly is another AI 2008 contender who is from another country, in her case, Ireland. Carly does not have any sort of accent. She and her husband run a tattoo shop in Santa Barbara and Carly’s arms are decorated with tattoos. They look very nice on her, however.

Carly sang “Shadow of Your Smile” and covered her tattoos this first night of performances. I could swear at one point Carly forget the correct words.

IF someone held a gun to my head and commanded me to name the winner of this year’s American Idol, I’d choose Carly Smithson.

Dance War 2008

So this rather unusual dance reality show is over and Bruno Tonoli and Carrie Ann Inaba gave it their best.

To my complete surprise, Bruno’s team won.

Also to my surprise, I now understand why ABC even bothered with this lackluster dance series. For on the finale when the winning team was announced, the 12 beginning dancers for ABC’s famous “Dancing With the Stars” 2008, scheduled to begin on 3/17/08, was announced. I’ve got pics and info on all of them below.

Guest Writer-Michelle Writes of Strange Waters in the Night; A Great Ann Rule Book Review

Guest Writer Michelle revisits her water poltergeist with a tale of mystery waters in dead of night.

Plus a book review-"Kiss Me, Kill Me" by Ann Rule.

This book is a fascinating review of formerly unsolved crimes now finding justice via modern DNA and investigative techniques.

Plus a correction sent in by a reader on my original review, all noted appropriately below.

Ann Rule’s “Kiss Me, Kill Me”

cover of Rule's

This book is one of Ann’s famous true crime “compilations” in that there are several stories compiled into one novel.

The book begins with the story of Sandy Bowman, murdered over 35 years prior to the book’s writing. Many of the stories in this book involve crimes that went unsolved for many years to be eventually solved in this era of more modern DNA techniques.

In fact this is one of the more fascinating things about this book, the unfolding tale of investigators trying to solve a crime without all the modern technology available to crime investigators today.

There are some intriguing crimes covered in this book. The books ends with a crime still not solved, a young married woman, Julie Weflin, who disappeared from her job 17 years ago and she still has not been found.

Harvey Glatman was a demented photographer who had a weird penchant for photographing his eventual victims before their murder.

***Blogger note-a reader emailed me a correction to this story in Rule's book reviewed in this post. I erroneous state that Fran Steffen managed to escape her stabber while running away holding her intestines in her hand.

In fact, Fran Steffen was stabbed to death by her killer and it was Fran's friend who escaped the same man who killed Fran just moments earlier, this while holding her intestines in her hand.

Below the quote by the reader....thanks for the correction.
I just finished reading "Kiss Me, Kill Me," and then I stumbled across your blog.

I thought I'd just let you know that in your review, the section about Fran Steffen ("You Kill Me--Or I'll Kill You") is incorrect. Fran was attacked while she was awake (she yelled "Oh God," or something like that), and she died in the apartment -- she never left the apartment after she was attacked.

Her friend, Lee Connors, is the one who was eviscerated in her sleep -- and she is also the one who ran to a friend's house holding her intestines in her arms.

Just thought I'd let you know…

Fran Steffen was literally eviscerated while she slept. Her killer was a fellow who really wanted Fran to STAB him for his sexual gratification. Fran survived the horrible attack by running away from her attacker and getting to safety, all the while holding her intestines with her arms.

Other stories include a gullible man killed by a couple and an obsessed husband who kills his wife.

After the detail in these crimes as only Ann Rule can write, many of these crimes by men who so “loved” the women they murdered, Ann provided these rules for young women today. It’s a list of actions/behavior/words that most definitely are NOT love:

-he tells you don't need anyone else but him
-he doesn't want you to wear makeup, fix up
-cuts you off from friends and family
-calls constantly to check up on you
-does not want you to get more education
-says he cant live without you, even threatens suicide
-chips away at your self-confidence
-strikes you, EVER

Liysa Northon was featured in Rule's "Heart Full of Lies". Liysa was pretty, intelligent and fortunate enough to live in two homes, one in Hawaii and one in Bend, Oregon. She was married to a Hawaiian Airlines pilot, Chris Northon, and was a talented photographer and writer in her own right.

Dr. Debora Green was a physician married to another physician, a Cardiologist, Dr. Mike Farrar. The couple owned a luxury home in Prairie Village, Kansas.

Both women had beautiful children; Liysa had two precocious boys while Debora had a son and two daughters. Both women wanted their husbands dead. One succeeded, the other gave it a try. Debora Green's house burned down and two of her precious children perished in the flames.

Both of these women are crazy as loons.

Ann Rule's "No Regrets"

A book review as Ann Rule does it again with "No, Regrets".
He piloted mighty boats and lived past 80 years but his own wife ended it all for him.

Ann Rule-"And Never Let Her Go"

And Never Let Her Go" is the true crime story of Thomas Capano, scion of a wealthy Delaware family, lawyer and political insider. It wasn't that long ago that this case was splashed in all the newspapers in this area and I vowed that when someone wrote the book I would look into it immediately. I was delighted that Ann Rule wrote the book.

Ann Rule "Last Dance, Last Chance"

This book by Ann Rule is unique out of all her novels in that Rule actually got to interview the victim who almost died at the hands of the idiot around who the story is based.

Midnight In the Bahamas

Part I:

2/13/08 1:10am Wednesday

I was sleeping so beautifully.

It'd been a nice evening. One of my friends came over, bringing dinner for us from Boston Market, and then we watched a movie. After she left, I did my evening tasks and went to bed. And I was dreaming of the Bahamas, sultry air and chilled drinks and the waves lapping on the shore...

Wait. Those waves are here.

I awoke with a start to the soft, intermittent sound of water. Tink. Trrtlrrr. Tink.

I stretched and got up, looking at the clock to see that it was 12:24 in the morning. Expecting to find the dog into something wet, or that the cat had managed to turn on a faucet, I followed the sounds into the master bath.

And stepped into a lake.

The master bath floor was awash; the water sounds emanated from the lip of the floor vent in the master bedroom, just outside the bathroom door, and the shower had a merry mostly-silent waterfall cascading into Lake Master Bath. As I stood there, in shocking wet feet, I realized the water level was rising.

Aaaah! The water poltergeist was at it again! I cursed H-2-Uh-Oh and got a bucket and a beach towel. That didn't soak up everything on the floor (but it did stop the water from getting into the bedroom) and Iquickly found I hadn't the strength to wring it out, either. So I got another, smaller towel.

That one, too, was unwieldy wet, so I went looking for a hand towel. And as I searched for one, I thought about physics. A stable body of water cannot overflow unless it has more water coming in. The river doesn't flood unless there's a nasty local storm, or too much runoff from upstream.

Our septic tank has been in trouble since Christmas, when we discovered one of the covers had fallen in. The tank is apparently the original one that came with the house and is made of wood. It's beginning to crumble. We had a septic place out and they will replace it - when the ground dries out enough to support one of their trucks. Since we've had so much rain since Christmas, there's been no chance to do that. Today (er, yesterday) was the third sunny day in a row and that's been a long stretch compared to what we've had. The ground is still not dry enough.

But even so, unless more water was coming in, the tank shouldn't be backing up. And the water in the master bath didn't smell bad, either.

I looked outside. No, it wasn't raining.

I followed the hidden-underground pipe trail. The bathtub in the hall bath had standing water in it, about six inches deep. I set the stopper to closed. The sink was fine. The kitchen sink was fine, too.

Aha! The garage sink was about half full. This one holds a *lot* of water. The water softener must have cycled, sending its weekly overflow into that garage sink. (I certainly wasn't doing laundry or anything in my sleep! Who does laundry while they're in the Bahamas?)

If I didn't empty the garage sink, the water would simply find its way out onto the bathroom floor. I got my bucket and a coffee can and started bailing. One full bucket, and I paused. Today (er, yesterday) I'd received what I think is a junk email saying someone close to me has taken out a contract for my death (one of you, perhaps?). It was to my email address, but didn't have my name, just "What Ever You Call YourSelf" so I think it's junk. Maybe. Sort of. But I kept it in case I should suddenly die and the Feds need a clue. The note said not to
come outside after 7pm.

And here I was, way after 7pm, standing in my robe and bare feet in the garage with a full bucket of water and nowhere to dump it except outside. A death threat, and a flooded bathroom. Coincidence?

I stood there a moment, weighing options (not many) and beliefs (was it junk?) and decided to do what I must.

Hex House

I opened the door and invited the dog to step outside.

He refused to go.

I pushed the dog outside.

Nothing happened to Bounty, so I stuck my head out and peeked around. No black-clad assassins waited for me. So I gathered my courage and stepped out, then dumped the bucket and went back for another.

Two full buckets. Then three, and a fourth. The water in the garage sink went down, and down and down. Finally I was getting only half a coffee can per dip and I expected to start scraping the bottom of the sink soon.

But it didn't happen.

One half coffee can full at a time, I filled the bucket a fifth time. And then a sixth. I began to wonder if I was in a bad horror movie, or a Candid Camera episode. A seventh bucket. The water level in the garage sink was NOT going down.

I took the seventh bucket full outside and dumped it. Then I studied the garage sink. The water was bubbling back in so fast I could *see* the current at the drain!

So I came in to check the house. The bathtub looked unchanged, which was good because I'd stopped it. But the shower! The shower level had dropped about two inches and was no longer coming over the edge. Apparently I had stabilized the water level, and our house isn't as sloped as I'd thought.

I figured I'd finish the task in the morning, then after the sun was up I'd investigate whether my septic is finally full (after that partial dirt/wood collapse in December) or if the pipe is clogged. I got a glass of water (why not?) and I went back to bed to try to return to the Bahamas. But I couldn't sleep; this Drivel was running around in my head. So here I am, writing to you what happened. Now I'm off to bed once more and I'll finish my tale for you tomorrow (er, today).

Part II:

2/13/08 12:50pm Wednesday

It's been over twelve hours since I stumbled out of the Bahamas and into Lake Master Bath. The septic tank is not full, but a lot of muddy muck is visible, so I think the entry to it is plugged. I've called the septic company and they'll be out to look at it (and probably snake it clear for now, since they still can't get a truck in to replace the tank) sometime today. I've got a call in to our water softener folk, too, so they can tell me how to turn off the cycling in
case it's a nightly thing (that would be bad).

So for now, it's handled. And this Drivel wouldn't leave me alone until I finished it, so now it's done and I can go back to my business PC and get some work done.

Anybody want a poltergeist?

Part III:

2/15/08 5:21pm Friday

The septic people cleaned out my greywater pipe and everything's running fine again (and I'm still alive). At least, until the next time H-2-Uh-Oh rears his ugly head.
